Hey guys. Just bought a VU SS with a gen 3 in it. Pretty green on the gen 3's as i've always had 5 litres. Just wondering what differences there are between the early models (VT-VX) and the laters (VY-VZ). Also i've been looking at LS2's and the LS3's and they don't seem to look all that different in the top end, was wondering if engine covers that would fit, say the 6.0l would fit the 5.7? Also the injectors off a 6.0l Cheers Pricey

Radiators are different. Exhuast is different. VT have different manifold to VX/U/Y/Z VZ have cats closer to heads. there is a few other differences, but they are all pretty similar

Main difference between VT to VX are LS6 intake manifold, bigger injectors, better heads, 241 castings as appossed to 853. VX 80 kg lighter than VT. Other diffences but none that important. LS2 have 243 cast heads and slightly different cam. (nothing to write home about) In regards to engine covers..... leave them off. They hold in heat. (not good) Every tune we do we remove them, also a colder thermostat can be fitted too. VY series 2 have higher mounted cats and PCV mounted in valley plate as appossed to in the tubing running around the rocker covers. Very late series 2 VY had all short head bolts as appossed to long ang short that were fitted to the first gen 3 engines. In regards to injectors, you would only change injectors if the cars was tuned to suit. You cant just slam injectors in and expect the car to run correctly.

Thanks for all the info guys, much appreciated and very insightful. As for the injector upgrade yeah tell me about it, don't worry i know all about tuning with upgrades like injectors. Have a nissan 180sx so jap cars are the worst for that, unfortunately i had to learnt the hard way lol. ---------- Post added 27-01-11 at 19:10 ---------- and i agree about the engine covers, I had a coil pack overheating problem on my jap car so i would only be using the engine covers for eye candy purposes on the odd occasion.

I've got a set of aftermarket 24lb/hr injectors fitted to my VY SS Commodore which got from the U.S. on ebay for $244 AUD brand new (bargain), I think they were advertised as Camaro injectors but nonetheless, 24 lb/hr is the standard flow rate for both that motor & the LS2 (6 litre) ,they were advertised for that engine too. On the VE's I think they may have changed the type of injector which can physically fit onto the engine , they use a different connector but changeover connectors can be made up or the connectors can be change to suit the new injector, as long as the flow rate is the same they can be fitted without any further tuning needed. Any cover should fit over the standard fuel rail ,I'm yet to see whether any mods need to be performed on mine because I'm planning to fit custom rails as an upgrade the standard H or I shaped rail (depending upon how you look at it) ,I think because mines had a tune & exhaust package fitted it may be running a little on the lean side and that the standard fuel rail is marginal on a standard LS1 , that's only my opinion. I'm looking at a U shaped rail and I am gonna keep it returness, yeah , I may run a return line back to tank, I'll see how I go but I want to try and avoid that. I think the adonized aluminium rails will deflect the heat better than the standard steel fuel rail.
