car can still be stolen simply more chance of recovery i'd prefer stopping it being stolen and damaged in the process

Get one of these. Your average car thief will have issues.... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-DISKLOK-S...d#ht_506wt_907 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-DISKLOK-STEERING-WHEEL-LOCK-YELLOW-SMALL-UP-39CM-/120507886109?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c0ed46a1d#ht_506wt_907) Here's some comparisons against others; http://www.ovat.be/Artikels/Steering...utoExpress.pdf (http://www.ovat.be/Artikels/Steering%20Locks%20test%20by%20AutoExpress.pdf) Install some ear piercing / vomit inducing piezzo sirens in your cabin to accompany the carefully installed alarm and your car will probably stay in the same spot you left it as the the time it takes to get one of these off will ward off any would be thief. OR you can get one of these for about $1000 http://www.ezitrak.com.au/ Just be careful with the cheaper GPS units that fail to send any information when the power is cut. And like your day to day mobile make sure you have enough credit or are on a phone plan. I know someone who ran out of credit, forgot to recharge then lost his pride and joy. Luckily it was recovered.

Steering locks shmeering locks. Half the cars these days get pinched by tow trucks or people with trailers anyway. Get a GPS so you can find out where your car is instead of looking at your broken steering lock on the ground where your car used to be. If someone wants your car they will take it... atleast with one of these you have a chance at finding where it is.

I'd like to see where you got your stats about half the cars stolen are by tow truck drivers. As for GPS, until they take it to a warehouse or garage and its undercover then you still have a chance. If you're not fast enough with the call and report position on some cheaper GPS tracking units that only report location before it went undercover and out of view to satellites you might as well as not have had it in the first place. Get one that reports "last known position" before it went undercover. Better chance that way as you know the general locale.

The guy at the store told me its has an internal battery ... it hard wired to your battery but when its disconnected it has a battery life of about 3- 4 hours which i assume would be enought time to figure that its gone ... apaprt from overnight... ---------- Post added 17-12-10 at 19:15 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by PROGMH [View Post] Steering locks shmeering locks. Alot of people wouldnt know you had a GPS unit to know too put them in sheds with GPS blocking liner.. people saying if you put it in any shed your not going to find it.. Your phone still gets signel in a shed.. My phone has a GPA tracker on it, i can log onto a site and it tracks the phone.. i test it and can tell if its in my car out front, in my room and so on.. its very good, Sometimes if the reception isnt that good the radious is larger and for a phone it would be hard to track but for a car.. You get a 2-3 house area and for a car that should be a big help.
