hello all
after years of being a massive lx/lh torana fan and looking around for one for some time now in need of restoration [would love a hatch but not paying the earth] so a four door is what id be looking for.
i hate uc's with a passion but im noticing a fair few pop up now for sale at reasonable prices.
my question now is can lx/lh rear tail lights be installed easy or is it a cut and shut job?
and same with front nose cone and lights?
There's probably some extra things you should consider.
What engine do you want to put in? UC's never came with V8's and therefore need engineering. UC's also need full pollution gear where LH and some LX don't.
That's the reason why LH's are worth more than the later models in that there's no pollution requirements and it's easier to drop big V8's in.
From memory the fronts are a bolt on / off deal. I can't remember about the tail lights but I think it's a big job.
cheers
i have a 304 from vn sitting here so was planning to drop that in something along with a nice carby setup.
uc's have better suspension in the rear to?
just seems that all the uc's i look at have next to no rust compared to lx/lh
i mite just keep looking around.
i also want to use commo stud pattern to
Get on to the SA Holden Torana club, recently went to the Torana show and shine and heaps of blokes were more than happy to help / give advice.

The front guards/nosecone is not a bolt on/off deal like a HQ-WB, it requires unpicking/modifying of the inner skirts which are different towards the front of the car, and the inner front (nosecone) section is different.
Same goes for the rear as you would have to cut off the rear tail-light section, and part of the rear quarters where the LH/LX tail lights wrap around.
As for the polution requirements, (ADR 27A) came in July 1976 which would mean that a UC has the same anti-pollution gear as an LX (Unless you find a pre-July '76 LX)
UC's do seem to be easier to find (due to not being quite as popular as the LH/LX) but keep in mind as Brett (PROGMH) mentioned you would need to have it engineered if you want to go down the V8 path.
Commodore stud pattern would be fairly easy to do if you use the right combination of caliper/disc the front brakes are a bolt on affair without having to get custom hoses etc made up. (HX/HZ Caliper, non lift-up type and any HQ-WB front disc). HQ/Chev stud pattern is very similar to Commodore so this should be no problem.
As for the rear brakes, a cheap option provided you dont want to do burnouts at every single street corner is to use a sunbird salisbury diff, these come with a 3.9 gear ratio and again HQ rear drums are a straight bolt up affair (requiring the need to re-drill the axles for you commodore or HQ/Chev stud pattern.
