hi guys i have a vlct and i have some sort of a fuel problem i think, my car cranks but wont start. i originally thought it was fuel pump but fuel pump is fine. when i do crank i can smell fuel in engine bay, is it over flooding or something? please someone help out, when it was running it was running real rich with black smoke and pinging badly.

Fuel pressure reg is probably jammed resulting in high pressure.

CAS = crank angle sensor. It located in your distributor. Also what your smelling is un burnt fuel because your obversely not getting spark. Take a lead off your spark plug, take a spark plug out or use a spare spark plug & connect it to the lead. Make sure the spark plug is earthed on either the engine or body & see if it sparks when you turn the engine over.

If the CAS is faulty, the injectors won't be firing so you won't get a fuel smell. He also mentioned it was running for 20 seconds or so which probably rules out the CAS. Grab a stock reg off another VL and give it a try. Failing that, pull the return line off at the tank and run it into a bucket then give it a try. When i installed an 044, i found a restriction in the return line inside the tank. With the stocko pump this wasn't an issue. With the increased flow of an 044, the restriction caused a pressure build up at the fuel rail. I had about 60psi at idle which made it run hell rich and pump out a heap of black smoke.

a mechanic friend of mine said it was my ignition module as he checked for spark but i changed it and again nothing, now the battery is drained from trying to crank it over but i will try the standard fuel reg and see how it goes. Thanks
