Ok well I have a brand new ve ss ute manual. Now I need some help in the right direction..
Its completely stock atm and only 4k on the clock.
I was thinking about heads and cam package but after speaking to someone at gm motor sport he suggested instead of the heads and cam package I get the pro charger package (D-1SC ProCharger kit) the kit is just below 11k and he said I should see around 360rwkw maybe more.
which is including there Di Fillippo Duel 3" Stainless Steel System; Headers 1 7/8", 3" Hi Flow Cats, 3" Cat Back System as well.
(they just did a gts with a procharger that made 354rwkw but it was auto and only had 2 1/2 inch exhaust).
But I also here good things about the v-2 chargers and HPF also do a vortech charger kit for around the same price but I think the dyno graph read 330rwkw so its a bit down on power compared to the procharger
they also do a twin turbo kit but that will set you back 16k plus a decent exhaust system so looking at like 20k
So just looking to see what you guys think and what charger I should choose.
I would like a walky charger but I'm looking at 16k for charger plus more with including an full exhaust system.
Or do you guys think I should just save my money and just get a heads and cam package??

Cam, exhaust and retune will see you 300rwkw. Im doing it to mine in the next few weeks. Cam, springs and everything else I need will set me back $1100 (installing it myself) and tune extra, a bit more if you do push rods. The L98 heads are pretty good for this power as is. Im going a little large in the cam as these engines love it. I just want to punch out a mid 12 then ill be happy with that for a everyday street car.
If you go the charged route look the the Yella Terra kits, they have alot more potental than the harrops.

How did you come to this conclusion?

Instead of the walkinshaw charger, just go straight to the horses mouth and get a Harrop charger.

L98 heads flow pretty well from the factory and whil;e they make great power with a heads and cam package i think a blower is a great idea. If you dont like the procharger, maybe look at a vortech V7 Ysi blower - good for later on too. I wouldnt bother with a V2 S trim on a L98, Id consider a T trim if you cant afford a V7.

You have to decide what you want first, top end power, bottom end or a tough sounding street car.
Firstly the V2 capa kit should see 350-360 at the the rear through an auto on a VE not 330, still running a maff.
In my opion the side mount give a nice figure but you dont really feel the pull on the road.
Head and cam sound tough but after a month of driving them in stop start traffic you get sick of them really quick. Power figure that some shops quote are all top end and turn a VE into a laggy pig. Also remember alot of shops dont change to a double row timing set either, this is wrong.... A cam that has .600' lift with an aggresive ramp rate and a valve spring with at least 135lb seat pressure on it takes its toll on timing chains.
Turbo is the way to go for torque plus top end, but unless you go low mount on a VE I wouldnt recommend it. The single turbo kits on a VE run too close to everything and have a bad habbit of melting things. ( I know of one place that had a VE catch fire)
Twin turbo kits are expensive and have way to much plumbing for my liking and the Gen TT kit is a joke.
Harrop have a nice top mount in either 1900 or 2300. On a VE these feel great, especially a manual. They fit nice, there are no problems with the A/C cutting out on a hot day from having the condensor blocked by a 4 inch intercooler. The other thing that can be an issue is belt slip if not set up correctly or if blower over worked.
Hope tis was helpful

01-11-10, 11:13 GMT+10#11 cheers for the help guys and thanks FRASHD for your imput. I might skip the heads and cam package as It would be a pain in stop start trafic and probley regrete not spending that extra money and going supercharger....
I would like to go turbo but I'm guessing that would be more exspensive.
I think I'm going to go the charger rout. But still deciding if I should get a top or side mount... most likly will go side mount..
But undicided between vortech or procharger..
V-2 T-Trim kits 500kw looks good and its 9k for the kit....
