looks cheap for 900$.. good score.. just get it roadworthy and tidy it up as a nice cruiser.. to clean it up and get it on the road im guessing you'll spend around $1500, dont worry about trying to make it fast.. you'll never get your money back on it..
keep us post on your process

SI Calais, looks pretty orig and clean
that coil lead is a bit long and it needs the small guard at the top front of the radiator
trust me it's fast enough for you in stock condition, don't waste time or money on modding it
learn to drive on it, get your P's and get heaps of driving experience.

Geez looks like a bargain for $900
Don't waste money on trying to make a N/A 6 VL fast. Just spend your time/money of finding the missing parts for the car to make it original, service it with quality fluids and take care of it.
Then once your off your Ps if you want to keep the car you can turbo it and have a fast street car.

As above don't waste $$$ trying to make a n/a fast. First thing to do once its on the road is get a decent imobilizer/alarm.

They're no way near fast enough in stock condition. But I agree don't waste money modding it if you can't either turbo it or convert to V8

Restore to like new condition you would need to spend at least $20,000, probably more. If you want it nice give it a respray ($3,000-5,000), new suspension ($1,000), polish the wheels and get your dad to freshen up the engine with standard parts. There may be an RB30 rebuild kit you can buy, others on here will know what's around and what they cost

red will come up fine with a polish. and yeah it looks like a bargain. looks very untouched. get it on the road first and go from there. fresh fluids, an exhaust system and an air filter will help it feel faster. fast enough anyway. i got around in an n/a vl for 2-3 years i think, on P plates and it was fine. similair to yours actually. have a scan through my build thread to see some small resto things you can try out. polish everything! goet some autoglym plastic restorer aswell for the garnish / rear eyebrows etc.

04-11-10, 06:55 GMT+10#16 i got 3 immac blue high rises hidden away...
if you want to make it "faster" just change to a VLT diff with 3.9 gears... should be quick enough

That's good advice, but why not just change the diff gears? No need for 28 spline axles in a car like that

04-11-10, 07:55 GMT+10#18 Not a bad buy, few parts missing, at the end of the day $900 is cheap, check mine out, it is almost the same as yours and I paid $2000. also as above, dont bother spending money on the N/A, Turbo is the way to go.
Ban Boyracer for that comment "Instead of stroking it get an ecotec from a wrecker and drop it in" Seriously....

some people have no idea
like everyone has said just bring it back to OG and leave it, if u really wanna do mods to it start getting it ready to be turbo, then when ur off your P's u can just slap it on

04-11-10, 12:23 GMT+10#20 nice calais lad, keep it tidy, running and regoed and you'll always get $$ back for that car. Easy $2500 there.
Buy some tools and gregorys manual, and spend some time with the old boy, post your pics, its pretty interesting to see young fellas get into vls early.
Get hooked like the rest of these guys and you'll have dozens of calais turbos before your 20.
