just a quick question, is a vl v8 alterator and an rb30 alternator interchangeable?

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I have the same question. I have a 5L VL and need to get an alternator. Are the 3L one's interchangeable? Or can I use one of say a VK or higher rated VN onwards alternator?
