Protex and rare spares do an reco exchange for under $300 for a PBR VH 512 10 minutes work out and in. ( I've practiced on 32 of them) 5/8" ring spanner for the master/booster nut (upper left) 5/8" ring socket for the master/booster nut (lower right) Loosen the master/booster nuts 13 mm m/c to strut tower bracket Take the bolt out and take off the 2 x 13 mm bracket nuts and spring washers remove the strut tower bracket. now finish taking the master/booster nuts and spring washers off. rock the M/C to break the seal to the booster. gently move the M/C forward then toward the engine to give clearance for booster removal. 13 mm long socket + 2 x extensions on a 3/8" drive ratchet ( you don't need to disassemble any dash parts for VN and up (easier with the brake pedal pin facing the drivers side) or just lower dash covers (black) for VL and down (painful for anything with the brake pedal pin facing passengers side) , just get a torch to see the "copper coloured" 13 mm nuts either side of the booster rod and slip the dual extension 13 mm socket in on them and undo, don't drop the nuts down behind the carpet. Some booster retaining nuts have thick washers behind them {pain} normally silver coloured compressed nuts.) small screwdriver (to lever up one side of the capture clip on the pedal/booster rod, lever up the capture end and push it away and it will fall off) or (there are 2 types of retainers) Both are painful and difficult to get off if you don't know how they work. bull nose pliers (to pull out the scrolled spring pin on the pedal/booster rod, feel for the raised rounder section of the pin, grab it with the pliers and pull "down" (generally) but seeing the angle of the pin and pull accordingly get the best results or a small hooker wire will do the job easier) Slip the large washer of the pedal/booster rod pin, don't forget the smaller washer on the other side of the booster rod. Push the brake pedal and lever off booster rod. You might have to jiggle the booster by pulling it slightly forward until the mounting studs clear the firewall to help you get the booster rod off the pedal. remove booster reverse the procedure, but getting the booster rod on the pedal pin is the first thing to do when installing the booster in the firewall. piece of pi$$ out and in in under 10 minutes if all goes well however I have spent 1 hour upgrading a VK to 1" PBR Master cylinder and Dual diaphragm booster(after doing 32 of them you get good at it) Cheers Balfizar Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
