hey guys. im having trouble removing the stud that holds the exhaust to the cat converter. I knew it would be tough, i can remove the other 3 bolts easy. But this one hs lost the thread on the head of the stud. I have blasted it with a blowtorch and given it a good dose of WD40 for the last 2 days. But it wont budge. Any ideas? Also, are there alternative options on removing it? Such as drilling it out? Any help appreciated Cheers

Hey mate, your best bet would be drilling it out, if its still on the car, maybe put one or two of the other bolts back in to hold it still and just go at it with a drill. But use a drill bit thats smaller in diameter to the bolt, cos you don't want to stuff the thread on the exhaust that it has to bolt back into.

What about freeze spray, try to shrink it and possibly give it a bit of room to budge. Is the head on the bolt rounded? Sounds like it is from your description. If you can still get a socket on it, try tightening it, that might break the "lock" the rust has caused, then try to back it off. They can be a right pain to get out, never had one stick that bad though, a bit of WD and a breaker bar for extra leverage on the socket usually does it for me. Good luck.

i managed to get it off by heating it up with a blowtorch and using some really tight multigrips and a screwdriver. will be replacing them now i think Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
