Some time in the near future im wanting to upgrade my stock n/a jatco box to something a bit tougher. Have though about and got a few qoutes to rebuild the jatco but havnt heard good storys bout built jatcos taking alot of power reliabley. So atm either looking at a powerglide or trimatic, th350,400 etc. opinoins on what is the better option? car will be mainly used for the strip but would like to keep it nice enough to drive everyday.

And they dont call glides bulletproof for no reason either I would def recommend a glide, mine hasnt missed a beat and even cruising on the freeway the car sits at roughly the same revs as 3rd gear in my jatco used to Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

if you like your vl to be reliable, driving 7 days a week doing what ever you want get a powerglide. after cooking my trimatic for the 3rd time I said no more.

Im putting in a traumatic, they are slush box standard but when rebuilt with the right internals they can take some punishment. I have seen people run faster times with a 3speed over glide. I will also be using it on the street. In saying that I would like to see what a glide behind a RB30 is like. If anyone would like to take me for a drive let me know. You will always have different oppinions with this topic.

all I can say is its easier to drive and wont cook after 3 months of driving, happy to take someone for a drive if any cruise happens, I owned both and wasnt happy with 3 speed

Aiming at about 400hp basically enough power to run a solid 10 would be good. current setup is.35r with .82 rear on lowmount manifold.external gate. fair bit of head work with tx2 cam.044 pump.sard reg.surge tank. haltech e6x, jd plenum xf tb blah blah.. Really wanting to do it once and do it right. Ive owned a few cars with trimatics but no proper built boxes, just basic shift kits etc. but as been mentioned they arent coined traumatics for no reason. dont know if its worth mentioning but this setup is in a vh. so i'll need to fabricate new gearbox cross member etc

Hugo's can build a 700+Horsey Traumatic and convertor for around $4500, might need to drive to Vic for that one though. Forget the T400 as you'll spend half your torque trying to turn it. The T350 could be a cheap alternative as with little mods it will handle 400hp. Personally I like overdrive for the street and would consider modding the ole Jatco.

BMS make a japco RE 4speed that handles 1000hp, used in rigoli cars, can be used in ford/holden/skyline

Thanks for the input so far. might look into the jatco a bit more before i ditch it entirley. no need in spending lots of money/effort on putting in an entirley differnt box if i can acheive what i want with the jatco. Any recomendations on a good place that does jatcos up here in brisbane? someone whos had a box built by them and runs it? Allso how many people are running one piece shafts over the 2 piece? Heard the centre bearing doesnt like too many ponies going through it after a while

Get GZM to build you a tuff Keas spec Jatco - 3 or 4 speed, transbrake or not, don't really need it if ur only gunna use a 35r. Standard 2 piece tailshaft, everything bolts straight up. Perfect for the street, perfect for the strip. Have had 400+ in mine for over 3 years now.. plenty of muckin around in it.. 10.09@133 off the footbrake.... transbrake is just good for showing off on the street.. Service the box regularly and get a trans temp guage and don't go over 200F and ur laughing Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
