is that 400hp at the fly or wheels? At the wheels you'll probably need forced induction to keep it streetable on such small amount of cubes, but at the fly itd be fairly achievable to go 400hp n/a. How come your staying standard stroke? if its mainly bolt ons and you want to do it your doing to need to shave the heads or something to get the comp up, and if your changing pistons u might as well change rods and crank then you know its all up to scratch.

yeah be 400 at the fly, yeah its gonna be copping a full rebuild because i have nothing but time and want to make sure its done right, yeah only staying with standard stroke basically to see what i can get out of it, but yeah i would definately go stroker if need be and yeah was going to be bumping the the comp up but just seeing what pistons and rods will work with what...

i had a 304 in my VR. stock crank, A9L rods, keith black pistons 40tho flat tops, decked block, shaved heads, flowed heads, wade 49c cam (was a custom hydraulic). harrop high rise manifold, 1000cfm throttle body, 4into1's, no cats, single 3" exhaust (was bit restrictive needed twin 2.5). made 220rwkw behind a 4000stall converter.

i got an injected 5 litre block.. flat tops, 9.8 comp, crane 286, shaved yella terra heads, shot peened vn rods, balanced crank, double row timing chain, dual plane performer manifold, 650 holley. around 380 hp combo, with more headwork you can get more power from it

cheers PSI EFI exactly what i was looking for, thats a similar combo to what me and a mate worked out will go for something similar i reckon, still might go stroker, but i reckon what you got is plenty enough for the street and a bit of thrashing

the combo i wrote in a vl with manual would be real fun on the street and a nice lsd, i have a supra 5 speed and 3.36 lsd, quite slippery too, lol.. but considering you got stroker in mind, i would go for that.. reason being you could get bored later in the future and having the advantage of cubes you will make it more efficient as the 304/308 will be working harder to achieve it.. however if thats all you want their a kickass combo, real quick revving engine Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Just on the subject of strokers i see stroker cranks on eBay for 325 (starting bid i think) but also high performance world at parramatta do kits (including rods and pistons) for about a grand. that said a lot of people get good power from stock stroke engines...

a mate of mine did a mad 304 combo. stock crank, a9l rods, je forged slugs, 12:1 comp, crane 288 cam, set of ported vn heads off ebay, harrop manifold, 750 holley... pulled 4th gear burnouts with 3.08 gears in his ute. only died when it let go of a rod at 7800rpm. unsure of power it made but it was up around 420-430hp i was told.

dude y go a harrop crank....ok they have the name but they have the price tag...go a scat or eagle crank u can buy complete scatt kits with forged pistons, h beam rods berrings ext ext for $2700, ive used a few of these kits with and with out forced induction and havent busted one yet.......scatt has a better name than harrop in my opinion

yeah i was gonna use scat kit, but a mates mate is an engine builder and i can get a harrop setup on the cheap, brand new ---------- Post added 30-01-11 at 11:19 ---------- havent there been a few issues with eagle cranks though, like snapping and warping/bending easily?? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yes, there have been numerous reported issues with the Eagle cranks snapping/cracking so i'd stay away just to be safe. Also, Scat is a very reputable brand so there's no downside in using it, unless you can get the Harrop one for a comparable price.

yeah i was either gonna go with scat or harrop, but ended up being able to get harrop for same price as scat crank
