what options are there for a stepper motor on an rb30? obviously im running an aftermarket plenum etc. xf throttle body. having issues when the revs drop the car dies out. running a michrotech lt16s. everything else runs fine. tuner did his best to fix the problem for now. ended up with car idling at 1250 rpm in a bid to 'catch' the revs as they fall, working reasonably well. obviously not ideal. before anyone says tuner this tuner that, hes a good guy and one of the best in wa. im runnin a big cutom grind tx3 and a specialied power porting plenum (eg those massive ones, thus the problem). worst case scenario we can plug one into the plenum, got a couple of small bungs at the back im not using and could get one widened. just wondering what the options are that people are running? should i go with a bosch one or go for something like a different throttle body, a different falcon one or similar (tuner said there is one like an xf, but just has the stepper on the side). my ecu (lt16s) has a stepper motor controll option.

BUMP still need advice on this. Wouldn't mind buying one and installing it/running the wires myself.

EL-EF and AU throttle bodies have a idle bypass solenoid built into them. Not sure if you could get that to work?

Already got an XF one on there. Aren't those ones the Oval ones? How big of a hose is required for a stepper motor to be effective? Does anyone know? I've got a spare line into my plenum but it's not very big.

Are you trying to use a stepper motor to hold the throttle open or something? I thought stepper motors were designed to run along a shaft being driven by a belt (aka printer heads, small CNC routers etc)

He wants a step motor in the back of his manifold to bypass air past the throttle body. To control revs at idle. ie. aircon pump switches on requiring more revs at idle. On my haltech you can set up a step motor to control the idle and keep it at a set rpm. Mine didnt need any of that. I have to hold an idle for half a minute or so when I first start her from cold but after that she sits on 950rpm. Might chance in this latest build...... Ill be running A/C so we will see what happens. ---------- Post added 13-11-13 at 15:04 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by TheChad [View Post] Already got an XF one on there. Half inch should be enough.

You are correct though, looking to provide a bit of air at idle/getting off the gas so it doesn't stall. i think the hose I'm dealing with is nowhere near big enough, which means I'll have to have the plenum off to fit a stepper... bummer. Thanks for the input all Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
