another problem for the remote diagnosis boys! when I go to start my caprice, sometimes there is a grinding noise, then a whirring noise that slows down to a stop when i stop turning the key. then when i try again, it turns over slowly (about once) then starts as normal! does this indicate a rotted starter motor? has anyone had this happen before?
thanks

How old is the battery and what's the charge like on it? Does sound like the starter, but if not I'd loo kat the battery too. Maybe take it in and get it load tested, might not be holding a good surface charge, which is for kicking the motor over.

Can also be an earth problem but if it is making a grinding noise it will definitely be the starter, but also check your ring gear/ flywheel teeth for damage cause it could also have damage.

ha ha now it makes a liar out of me and hasnt done it again since i first posted
maybe it will just go away (not)
btw supps8 is your stato reluctant to kick down to second when nailing it? my caprice is and i figured maybe its a luxury car thing where they tune the box to give a less harsh ride?
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yeah, I gotta really nail it but all depends on what speed I'm doin. A stage 1 shift kit fixes that though!! When I had my vq, I got a rebuilt auto with a stage 1 shift kit/ shift improver with corvette servos etc and that really done the trick. It makes the auto done shift better!!!
