I am looking for a transmission for a LS1 and would like to stay away from a electronic transmission. Does anyone know if a T350 or T400 will bolt up to a LS1? What would be the strongest transmission? also are these vacume or cable kick down.

The T350/T400/Powerglide will bolt up minus one hole which wont matter, but you will need a special stall (LS1 front/Turbo back) i understand.

i would be going a full manual glide if you want something that will hold a bit of power

A T400 will give you a better first gear than a glide and they're just as strong. It'll be quicker too if you can get the power down.

Yeah, or you can buy a flex plate to suit this app and just use an off the shelf th400 converter, not a bad option if you thinking you might be upgrading converters during its life. Personally i would only be looking at the th400 or the glide, IMO you may as well build the 4l65e if you want a "reasonably" tuff box and you'll get to keep all of the ecu controls and overdrive as they will both cost lots of $$ to make them strong, how much power are we talking anyway? search one of the million threads for th400 vs glide arguments, they both have pro's and cons and it really depends on what you are trying to achieve. And forget kickdown, full manual is the way to go, it enables more oil pressure thus more precise and stronger shifts

I was after a th400 to rid of the electronic transmission and a power glide is out as I will be using the car on the road.

What's un-streetable about a glide?

top gear is still 1:1 you just gotta turn first gear nice and hard

Nah, It's just like 1st and 2nd are merged together... it just lasts a little longer than a normal first gear.

yeah i spent a bit of time driving a mates vlt with a glide/3500 on the street, its not that unreasonable. that said i'd still prefer a th400
