Hey All, I'm in the process of purchasing a new motor for my VLCT. The motor that's currently in my car is an original A8 but looking it replacing it with a freshly rebuilt A6 with forged pistons and all the rest of the goodies that go along with a race built motor. What are the down sides to this idea?

Yep, I wouldn't say there is a downside at all, unless ur as anal as some people on here about originality and having a 6 at the end of the number instead of an 8 is gunna make u lose sleep ?? Sounds like a mad plan... hold onto ur old block if ur keen to rebuild it one day...

Resale is a big one. Most people looking to buy a VL turbo would know that there is no difference between a A6 block and a A8 block but some of them wouldn't look at a car with an A6 block. As Vl's get older having matching numbers is going to be more important. Another example is a 351 cleveland block. A normal one is worth a few hundred. A 351 cleveland "D" block is worth 1500-2000. Only difference is the numbers.

mines a a6 series 2 with full forged internals the good thing is the a6 has not had any real stress put on it so it will be better than most a8 block if ur really concerned keep the origanal block in a corner for resale of the car

What are the down sides to this idea? Its no big deal if you use an A8 or A6. Who's done all the work to the engine if you dont mind me asking?

pigsys spot on, ive done same thing used a mint condition a6 engine for my rebuild and got the blown a8 engine in the corner. As long as everything is done properly and you get real receipts and can confirm with engine builder theres no issue at all, Just beware when they say my mate has the receipts n ill send them to you etc usually means its got atleast 2 shattered pistons and a blown head gasket.

I'm keeping the original a8 motor in the garage and using at worked a6 for timing being. When it comes time to sell the car the original a8 will be included to prove that the car is a genuine turbo.
