Hey guys, after looking high and low for a stock standard Vl Calais v8 localy (not many around) i have tracked one down that is cheap. Now the problem is that is has been Stolen & recoverd. This took place only 6 months after the purchase of it (22 yrs ago) And Im assuming by now it has a police number stamped onto it somewhere and is ok to be registerd. I want to keep it for a long time and keep it original.Say i was led to believe it was genuine, is it going to be worth anything or even be a calais at the end of the day to anyone? It could just be a Sl or Exec with calais gear on it (look a like) to people. Its factory Silver over Silver, Factory v8, evrything there but interior. no rust and straight. im going to look at it on Sunday. does anyone on here have a stolen and recoverd VL calais that could tell me what they think. I know its a v8 but this covers all calais. any info would great, thank you

police numbers greatly reduce value of a car it's a V8 Calais so is worth heaps less than turbo 6 and a bit less than n/a 6 is your heart set on a V8?

There's no way a V8 Calais is worth less than an N/A Calais. A genuine Calais stolen and recovered is still a genuine Calais. Look at the feature car this month, COLEYZ. It's been stolen and recovered.

Is Russ on drugs? Maybe he didn't say it correctly. There is no way a N/A 6 Calais is worth more than a factory V8 Calais

have any of you tried selling a V8 VL? ive had a few of them and re-sale value is pathetic, no-one wants to pay the money for them and they are near impossible to sell... thats my opinion anyway, i have owned and sold a few of them and let them go for far less than what i'd say they are worth...

Yeah i know what your saying SLY747. You can pick up a VL with a injected 5litre for $4500 & you can get an O.G. V8 Calais for $5000-$9000 depending on condition. I still say that an O.G. V8 VL Calais is worth more than a N/A Calais 6 (if they are in the same condition)

massive call aus 880 and id say fairly biased opinion but then again 1815261 thats all your going to get on here is opinions i personally love the Vl V8... its the last of the Aussie carbyd V8... and in my opinion 1 day it might be worth a few bucks good on ya anyways for going something different the vl turbo is untouchable but i personally think this site also celebrates the shape and enjoys all versions calais exec NA & V8 ---------- Post added 02-09-10 at 21:11 ---------- and to answer ur question i dont think it matters 99% of Vls have had 200 hundread different owners and a Sh!t load have been stolen at some stage if ur looking for inspiration check out my thread

my opinion is based on experience, the V8 VL should never have been bought out at the time the 6 cyl versions were smoother and better V8 VLs are hard to sell compared to 6 cyl ones you'll get the people who'll buy a V8 anything regardless of anything. case in point: a mate of mine has an XR8 Falcon ute even though the XR6T version is far better and more economical....go figure

I like my 5L Calais. As said there's not a lot around compared to the 6's. I didn't buy it as an investment, have no intention on selling, but if I do I know I'll most likely only get what I paid for it, if that. Headers and full exhaust setup helps a lot to wake them up, I don't consider it a slug, but it's no weapon either. If I keep it long enough for a rebuild I'll do some minor work to get a bit more from it again. Considering straight gas too, economy is the only big let down with the 8 for me. It's my third VL, I went the 8 for something different, and it was reasonably cheap for a Calais. Paint isn't the best, but all panels are straight and the only rust was in the front screen. In the end it all comes down to personal preference, if you want an 8, buy one.
