hey all, not far off from finishin my vl and need to know some ideas and info on diff gear selection. specs 355, h beams, forgies, 11.5:1 Ported cast vn heads approx 530hp, yt rollers, crane 300 torque power pro paw manifold, 750hp street 5500 stall, full manual th350 goal is to run the quickest 1/4 it can, not worried about streetability. Car is still not runnin but expecting over 500bhp was thinkin 3.9s just in case i gas it, but now prefer to stay n/a. Seen quik cars like tuffer runnin 4.56s. So 4.11s? any input will be greatly appreciated

4.11s or higher, doubt you'll run out of revs before the finish line sounds like a good motor

Yeah Tuffer runs gear like 4.56's but he also races on a relatively tall tyre and turns his engine fcuking hard! most 500hp '55's won't turn as hard as his. We really need to know the tyre size you intend on running and what sort of rpm you're gonna use, if you don't know give us the cam specs and we can make a guess. I'd be thinking around 4.11's as well depending. Sorry missed the cam spec, ok so im guessing you're gonna be spinning it to 7000-7300 ish ? If so you'll get away with 4.11's and a 26" tyre, if you wanna run a 28" tyre you might have to think about something shorter.

yeah im thinkin round the 7500-8000rpm mark, its a pretty big manifold. yeah tyres will be 28s for bit bigger foot print

If you're confident it will handle high 7's or even touching 8000 then you'll be able to go to a shorter gear, i assume you are running a 9" after quoting 4.56's? If so there's quite a few ratios to choose from, 4.11, 4.33, 4.44, 4.5 and 4.56 in that range off the top of my head.

yeah well, good point aZ. plannin on getting a BW diff built, 28spline billet axle/mini spool or possibly 31 spline full spool. And i havent heard of anything shorter than 4.11 for BW units?? Personal preferance to not go down the 9'' route

yeah, i'am partial to the BW myself, but the 4.11 is the shortest gear you will get for it.
