Hello v8 brothers, im taking a bit of a leap outside of my 6 cylinder turbo comfort zone and tryin to gain some knowledge on cubes ive had a quick search but cant seem to find anything basically im looking for a run down on lsx motors (bar ls1s) and what sort of boost they can handle using a 6-8/71 type charger, what compression to run, what internals are needed for certan boost levels (i.e. forged rods, pistons, crank etc), rough power levels with certain boost levels blah blah blah obviously this is a verryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy vague question and i understand power levels are dependant on a million factors like each engines displacement, compression, boost, cam etc etc but its more so to get a rough idea on these motors as i really know little on how far they can be pushed if someone knows of another thread or forum that will be more help dont hesitate to point me in the right direction

Well the LSX blocks can handle up to 2000hp. Like any motor, nneds to be built with the right gear. CMEFRY VK has a blown LS motor.... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

ok so just to throw a more specific question in, how much power can the standard ls3 bottom end internals handle before they give in? so when do you have to replace the rods, crank, pistons etc

Ls3 rods start to give way around 470-480 rwkw standard liners also split at high hp. Dart liners can be installed and machined. When I say rods give way I mean slight bend was noticed after engine strip down.

nah rob, just enquiring cheers FRASHD, so block wise, which would be a better starting point for bigger power out of the ls2 or ls3, to put a figure on it lets say 800-1000hp (i no, big varience but meh) from my understanding they are essentially the same block bar the bigger bores in the ls3 and also bottom end wise what else is needed apart from forged rods, pistons, crank and these dart liners Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Your looking at big bucks to replace everything and if u really want 1000rwhp or so, just buy an LSX block to start with and a kit that takes ci out to 427ci+ it'll make the power so much easier. Id buy some aftermarket heads, or even just get some L98s and give them the full treatment. Pretty sure a cam and exhaust on a LS7 will get u around 420-450rwkw potentially - cubes are the sh1t, more the merrier.

An LS7 in a Z06 Corvette, stock, no mods with a tune will get 345-348kw @ rear wheels no mods. The LS7 has titanium rods from factory too

so with an ls3 stroked to 427 with one of these stroker kits and pistons to suit boosted application and a 6/71 charger how much power can be expected from say 5-10-15psi and 20psi with an 8/71. Is it the same rule of thumb as turbo 6s, with every pound of boost add an extra 10kw?

who told you every pound of boost add's 10kw?

dono, rough rule of thumb i heard somewhere but with rb's its relatively accurate

That 10KW for every psi doesn't really sound to accurate, because i've seen alot of car make say for example 300rwkw on 20psi then they make hardly anymore power if you up the boost to say 25psi. Anyone agree with me or am i just losing it? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

its all dependent on turbo size, efficiency range, cam, compression, there is a million factors

yeah very true, you could list a million factors like you said.

like i said guys its a verrrryyyyyyy rough rule of thumb but ive found it to be vaguely accurate most times ive used it, theres obviously a million factors but yer provided the turbo is still in its efficiency range it kinda works anyway more talk of lsx's
