Hi guys!
Im kinda new to this site, but before i owned my VL i was always on here checking everyones rides
anyway here goes,
i just bought a VL executive (1988) with 180 odd on the clock. SL's all round, interceptors with chrome trim, exhaust tip, remote locking immobilizer with remote start and a ****ty head unit.
Anyway here are some pics
I have bought the calais garnish (payed 10 bucks at the wrecker in quality knick) so thats soon to go on
and exhaust (possibly mandrel bend 2 1/2 inch
tell me what you think

looks clean mate, i wouldnt put a calais garnish on a sl/exec, would look out of place , but thats just me, put some white venetians in it and a set of nationals and it'll look the goods

Looks REAL clean, I agree with leb vlt, don't put a calais garnish on, tidy up the commodore badge and leave it like that, looks like it's had a respray not so long ago?

Rims on the front with stockies on the back? Are you a derro or something bud? If you're going to do it the only ways that work are, complete SL rear end or complete Berlina rear end or Calais tail lights with a black garnish. I say keep stock SL rear end but obviously you dont so I think Calais tail lights + Plain Black Garnish.

Yeah I'd keep em for spares, I'd rather drive on chasers everyday but VTs would be a nice change from time to time.

28-08-10, 11:22 GMT+10#11 save your money and start building a quicker driveline, stronger box and diff, then line up the engine bits
as for appearance, just tidy it up

29-08-10, 21:49 GMT+10#13 buy a series 2 block and get it acid bathed chemically cleaned etc. then fill it with all vl turbo spec internals. get a jatco 4 speed box and have a company such as keas or similar rebuild and strengthen it. same as the diff. buy a 28spline turbo diff or run an r31 diff and get the centre replaced. get vt twin spot calipers up front. 1" master cylinder and vs commo booster for stopping power. hi-flowed t3 or t04 turbo and a nice 3" turbo back exhaust. you will need a turbo computer of some description. after market would be good so it can be tuned such as a wolf 3d or whatever they are lol. new injectors. little bigger than stock so theres room to upgrade. custom plenum. frount mount. etc. etc the list goes on forever man.
welcome to the money pit.... sorry i mean vl commodore

30-08-10, 10:41 GMT+10#14 Thanks for that man. Yeah seems like my income is going to be pointless now hahahah. I'm on my p's so I can't turbo it yet obviously so what kind of kw range can I expect from all th other stuff excluding the turbo? Thanks mate

30-08-10, 11:30 GMT+10#15 hey mate, do what i did.
make it look nice as a NA, some nice rims, nothing to massive unless you enjoy canaries.. nice exhaust, leave the garnish and lights. then when your off your P's and earning some ok money, save up, by all the bolt ons, gktech cooler, 3inch exhaust, new cam, wind up the boost and enjoy!
i have had mine for 10 years, and it been my dream to turbo it, and i have, and i love it!
but yeah if you have a figure in your mind of what you want to spend, double it
i have the same car mate, 88 exec, i think they are the best esp with the cream interior
mine was auto and had it converted to manual which was about 1500 bucks
my biggest piece of advice is, dont cut holes in it, if you want a pod attach it, or just by a decent air box filter. clean it up and start saving.
oh pedders kit with super low king springs too if you want it to sit nice
