Hey guys,
Here is the build thread for my 1986 Silver Slate VL Turbo Berlina.
Brought it in May this year.
Was pretty much bog stock, only had a couple of mods.Whiteline Panhard rod
Slightly lowered, enough to make it illegal
Hectik BOV on the stock crossover pipe, and a boost gauge :P
I originally brought it with plans to keep it fairly stockish, drive it while at uni, and then have something to work with once I had finished in 4 years. Oh how things changed...
I deferred uni after realising that an engineering degree will not finish itself and requires some attendance, and am now working as a labourer during the week, and set up bouncy castles on the weekends for some more money. Add to that a VL that could double as a smoke machine thanks to some top quality 270,00km old turbo seals, and the goal became to have a 10 second car before I head back to uni, and I am underway
In the garage I have a plethora of parts courtesy of a couple calaisturbo members.Rajab Plenum on N/A runners
ITS 60-1 Turbo rated at 600hp on a hi-mount manifold
Turbo Smart 48mm external waste gate
Turbo Smart Pro Fuel Regulator
3" Turboback exhaust with a high-flow cat
630cc Injectors
Crane Hi6 Ignition system with lx92 coil.
Microtech LT-10s and loom with less than 1000kms on the clock
I plan to mate this up with a 3/4 speed fully manualized jatco maybe with a transbrake, which is next on the shopping list, just need to get through to GZM in Victoria. Swear their phone is always busy :P
But that's enough words, time for some pictures.
Front windscreen seal replaced and professional repaired with a VT seal.
VL rust starting to show on the rear windscreen seal.
In the shed, ready to start chucking new gear on.
Random assortment of goodies.
Dardy airbox mod, pretty sure it added 25kw
Puddle of oil in crossover pipe, courtesy of turbo seals.
Little bit of welding the previous owner 'forgot' to mention.
Well that's about it so far, not bad for someone who can't even buy a beer...
Cheers,
Matt

Your project looks like it is progressing quickly, new box, all those go fast bits and new rims!
Uni makes modding cars financially impossible sometimes hey, good to see you're spending your time away from study well!
I'm stuck with my beater until i graduate...

Yeh, being at uni sucks in terms of cash flow haha.
Ended up getting a R33 5 speed box, went and picked it up from KYP today.
Only thing I need now are the rest of the parts for the manual conversion, some new rubber, and plenty of time to get the work done haha.

10-09-10, 23:18 GMT+10#12 Little update.
Managed to do some work this week. Got the plenum on and wiring loom out, not much, but its progress haha.
Jobs for this week are to relocate battery, remove battery tray, install fuel pump and surge tank, and start planing cooler piping.
Getting to the stage where I'm a bit out of my league in the mechanical department, just in terms of the plenum and fuel line plumbing, and the wiring loom. Not sure whether to try myself or send it to a workshop, just don't want to **** anything up :/

Tailshaft is at Finaldrive right now, getting turbo yoke chucked on.
Car goes off to rotomotion on friday to get all the fiddly **** I didn't want to **** up done haha.
Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong, and that she's on the road for the CT cruise later this month.

06-11-10, 16:16 GMT+10#16 Well, after a little while at Rotomotion, and a bit of a budget blow out, she is on the road, although only running a little boost, just to run in the clutch and iron out any problems.
Just need to sort out a few little bits and pieces, and clock up a few hundred k's before I take it to get a full tune.
Drove it home minus the front bar. Got so many looks haha.
Engine bay finished.
Fuel system. Never knew the 044 pumps were so loud.
Need to cut some more of the bumper away to fit the corner pieces on.

Fuel system (pump/surge tank/pressure reg/plumbing)
Plenum plumbing
Cooler plumbing
Wiring loom
And a light loads tune.
Need to fix an exhaust manifold leak, run in the clutch, and sort out a few electrical issues before I get a full tune, still not sure who I will get to do that.
