Hey everyone. Just after some thoughts and opinions on what to do with one of my corolla's. Basically either going with a 12at fully engineered street legal which is my preferred option that I am leaning towards. The other option is go with a rb30et tub it and build it as a full drag car. Matt

tuff street car. cos you'll build the drag car and never really get the chance to drive it.

That is true. That's the reason for leaning towards a tuff street car so I can actually drive it around being about 4 hours away from the nearest drag strip is also a fair turn off.

Exactly what Zak said. You won't get enough time to drive it & properly appreciate it. I'd build it as a tough street car so you can actually enjoy the car more often. What's it gonna have done to it? what turbo? port?

if ur gonna build a tuff street car make sure u can engineer it for EPA etc etc, otherwise just go all out!!!

Street car for sure, I dont see the point in building a drag car that you can't use. Just make sure it's fully engineered and you're set! It shouldnt be too difficult engineering a 12at into an early corolla as long as it's pre KE20 / 25. Emissions might be an issue if it's a later model 'rolla.

its a ke36, emmisions shouldn't be to hard, only needs to meet what the car is and the engine is newer. Have been talking with a guy that has a 12a n/a carby engineered in his ke30 and he passed the emmisions very easily still without a cat converter. thinking of around 300rwkw and keeping it as light as i can, considering it's tare weight is about 850-900kg from factory 300rwkw should be alot of fun. Have been told to go a mild port as i wont need anything larger then that, and most likely a gt3582r with 1.06 rear, so i'll have room to up the power if i please, oh and through a full manualised auto. needed to get this decision sorted asap as the car is currently sitting on 4 jack stands as a bare shell, about to be stripped for paint, then all the rust cut out and new metal welded in place. have a vl diff sitting around the side of my house that will be getting shortened for it. and it also has vl front struts.

pity i can't go bigger then a 2.4 turbo if i want to engineer it lol. but gra is an option i'm looking at. if i can mount the tank under the car in place of the fuel tank then it prob will end of going gra. oh also updated my thread for this car on this site. was a little bit behind in the pictures lol.

What about a 13b? or are you gonna use the 12A because you already have it? Also, i wouldn't go bigger than an extend port because then it'll start getting loud & producing more emissions. With even 250rwkw this would fly, but with 300+ it's gonna be an absolute handful Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

go sr20... not as noisy and attention grabbing as a rotary

13b is classified as about a 2.6 litre so it's to big otherwise I would go 13bt. And yeah gas I do wanna gra. Just would like to fit the tank under the car. Or worse case mount it off the back rest on the back seat so I can still fold the seats down. Even thinking about gra for my other corolla that has a turbo 4k in it lol.

sr20 would be a good option and would probly easily make 250-300 rwkw with the right off the shelf bolt on parts. probably much easier to engineer as well.

Lol. I'm not going sr20. Always wanted a turbo rotor. Love em.

emmision laws were introduced from June 1976 and anything made pre 1995 is not very hard to pass with a talented tuner.

Your 12at package sounds ideal, though I would go a manual they are lot more fun with rotaries. With 300rwkw this would be capable of very low 10s and faster with the right setup and driving.

Personally i would put a piston motor in it for a street car, even a 2.0 4 cyl 4 valve turbo motor will make more than a 12at through a set of mufflers and pump fuel, especially with a power sucking auto, but if its a rotor you want get that. cheers darren

so your saying i'd be better of going with an sr20det then a 12at? how would it make more power? i've heard of crank's twisting and rod's stretching in sr20's. not sure if that was only the s13's or what, but apparently anything over the factory rev limit or 14psi they'll do that. i know my cousin's s15 is still going mighty well at about 240rwkw with only exhaust, fmic, intake and a tune.
