I'm looking at buying a vlt and it has had a little bit of work done to it for example, plasmaman plenum, new diff, plasmaman induction and large frontmount, t04 high mount rear housing with a t4 front and external gate putting out 260kw on 9psi, but the thing i'm not sure about is the gear box? It has an r33 manual box and I was just wondering if this is a common thing to put these stronger boxes in vlt's. Cheers vlt's are new to me so as much help and advice would b appreciated.
Absolutely, perfectly common - and seen as a good upgrade from the tiring and harder to rebuild mx7 manual box.
They bolt straight up with a few small changes to the tailshaft, slave cylinder and speedo sender.
It's got an exeedy HD clutch in it but I don't know wat it is rated to hopefully nothing blows if I get it, is it worth changing to an auto if I run to much power throught it or can the r33 boxes hold a fair bit? He wants 7000 for the car and it is in good condition
i'd have no idea but id say your looking at some serious cash to strengthen it anymore. As already said its good for 300kw and if you need more power than that i would definately go auto as anymore power than that on the street through a manual in a vl would be USELESS.
You think youd have a fast car with 400kw and a manual? When you get beaten by that POS vn v8 or something ill bet youd be wanting an auto lol.
You wouldnt get anywhere in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear from the lights it would be all wheelspin. Just ask atmo bt1 of here he went with the works, full motor + turbo setup, r33 manual and sold it for a better car as the vl chassis cant really handle that much power to well on the street especially through a manual it just doesnt have enough weight and grip on the rear wheels to put the power to the ground so yea youd have 400kw but how much of that would u effectively be able to transfer to the road in a street situation?
Also with a manual and a turbo capable of 350 or more kw's your going to have a HELL of a lag problem. The car would feel slow. lolo

No change needed if you have mx7 tailshaft the yoke is the same,if you have mf5 tailshaft then you need to change
