I'm currently puttin a haltech into my car. and with out running a piggy backed standard ecu the gearbox wont work to well. Iam either considering pulling the jatco out and getting it built with a full manual valve body or running an entirely different box all together.
I was thinking allong the lines of a powerglide,TH350 or 400 etc. Is it worth keeping the jatco or ditching it for something else?. Eventually id like to run some decent times on the track, just unsure as to which direction i should go in regards to the gearbox.

if you get someone thats capable of doing a good job on the wiring, its entirley possible to seperate the engine harness from the trans harness.
i wired in my mictotech and retained the jatco. worked fine.

get it rebuilt as a full manualised 3speed jatco and you wont have to worry about any wiring except neutral start saftey switch that just goes back on side of box as factory. They can build the jatcos to hold some power around 450kw+ or so more than enough by sounds of what your after. I had the above box with a 3200 stall and it just made the car was very fun.

Yeah we could have got it to work but didnt really like the idea of running both the haltech and a piggybacked standard ecu.Would have made things trickier wiring wise and more expensive.Unless theres another way you can go about it iam not aware of?

This is the avenue i was thinking of going down, 3speed full manaulised and get rid of all the electric side of things. A box that could handle that sort of power is more than enough than what i need at the moment. I'll have to do some more reserch and go from there.

The only electronics in the jatco are the OD solenoid and the TC lockupclutch if its an na box.
whats so hard to wire? the auto ecu only controls those 2 solenoids vs temp and rpm/speed

Im definatley no wiring guru but from what ive been told by the bloke wirring the car is that the OD solenoid and TC lockup are controlled by the rpm, temp and speed sensors. Infomation from all these sensors is first sent to engine ecu converted then sent onto the auto ecu.without having the stock ecu to send on the infomation to the gearbox ecu things like OD and TC lockup wont work. But correct me if im wrong.

while that is probably correct, all you need to do is wire a 12v feed to the OD solenoid (12v disengauges it) wiring it inline with a switch allows you to control when OD is selected, this is what you have to do with the manual 4 speed jatcos.
The TC lockup clutch can be done the same, however i myself would never use it, unless your cruising on the highway and want to lock the converter for slightly increased fuel economy.
IMO if you were thinking of a T350/400 as these are 3 speed, id just go a 3 speed jatco, should be an easier installation and they are a very tuff box, dont bother with 4 speeds, i regret my 4 speed
depends on your target HP goal

Late i know, but i removed the standard ECU completley, and retained all the wiring comgin fromthe speed sensor on the dash and the Trans module.
worked like a champ.
