ok so this is my my new project white sl N/A calais mock up .full calais inerior including dash 90% calais exterior 260,00kms auto N/A A6 motor stock as a rock motor and trans wise Purchased this car two weeks ago, the night i bought her home i joined calaisturbo and found a written off sl turbo damaged down the drivers side exactly what i needed for my new build . so i txted my offer through and then after a short phone call i had bought my 2nd vl in two days . i decided the long w/e(queens birthday) was perfect to get the project underway. first was removing the turbo diff and installing it into the N/A vl then the front bar off of the and unbolting&disconnecting all of the motor and auto ready for removal . then crain in and motor out . took trans out seperately i then removed all the aircon stuff as i have no time for air con. then prepared the A8 and MX7 to come out as one peice this was somthing i had not done befor removing a motor and gear box at the same time. I was so stressed when my prized turbo motor and gearbox were dangling from dangerous hights of around 2.5 meters in the air totally un level weighted down by the gearbox. Installing it it into the white VL went extreamly well and honestly could not have been easier . next in plan is to paint up the front bar and skirts on it , i have started but its really just too cold to do a good job so i will just wait it out. they will be redone again in MX grey Things to do in the next 2 months will be:wire up calais eyelid motor GKtek cooler kit and some minor rust removal Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

So it had been like 4 weeks since I had touched the vl so decided to get busy on the w/e and decided not to get paralytic Saturday night so had the night in reading up on commodore mags and jumped on ebay and purchased a GK tek no holes kit which I received on Tuesday!! Just dummy fitted the piping together for pic i know its not correct Woke up at 7 am on Sunday and it wasn’t raining for once which made not going out the night b4 all worth while . Worked all day on the vl and managed to get the following done • Pedal box swapped over for manual P box • Clutch booster put in • Shifter bolted back onto trans • Gear box filled up with oil • Base plate riveted down • Centre console fitted • One piece tail shaft installed • Radiator and fan put back in After that it was dark but I was determined to get her running that day. But things aren’t always that easy and my ignition and fuel system refused to work at all… • Starter motor wasn’t working So I went to bed after hours of checking over things but after picking up a few month old issue street commodore mag the answer was randomly right there in the Q&A section If your car was originally auto and u have done a manual conversion u have to loop two terminals on one of the auto loom plugs or u can bridge the two purple wires the go into the relay down near the battery on the driver’s side . So I did this then starter fired but the fuel pumps still not arming and no spark from leads .. After asking on every forum I am part of finally found out the I had to bridge two wires the go to the fuses and bang tonight she ran ! Runs good but there is a miss fire due to dodgy dizzy plug so I will have to get a new leads but other than that it runs well ---------- Post added 21-07-10 at 20:09 ---------- knocked off early today so it was time to put the Cooler kit on started off well and only got worse cooler mounting was fine but its when i went to put on the first pipe i ran into problems and more problems im am running an aftermarket T3/T4 and the font housing is too long so the bend of the pipe couldnt fit in the gapbetween turbo and engine bay . so cut the bend to make it just fit but it still wasnt 100% correct then because of that plently more **** went wrong other piping didnt allign and then power streering lines got in the way so much for BOLT ON haha finally got it sorted and now all i need is a lil tuning motor has a miss fire to at about 3-4,000rpm ---------- Post added 21-07-10 at 20:10 ---------- the main reason i ran into trouble with the kit is because of the after market t3/t4 and the power steering if i didnt have these it would have bolted up fine . I am going to modify the power steering line by cutting it befor the 90* bend and then put a long rubber hose up to the resivour, that way the whole thing should sit/alaign up heaps nicer . heres after i gave it a quick was down , i need to use some cutters on the **** hanging around the airbox reigon its on there good ---------- Post added 21-07-10 at 20:12 ---------- hey all finished painting up the front bar and put it all on only to find that i had been either A:giving the wrong paint or B: the color of my door trims and rear bar are not original MX grey just gonna get the pros to spray it i seriously cant be f**ked especially in this winter weather also took some picks Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

here are some pics of the vl recived my MACE ENGINEERING CAI today and tryed to put that on , good product but standard turbo intake pipe dose not line up rubber pipe kinks because bend is too sharp . will sort somthing out tomorrow some silicone bends and a peice of alloy pipe, just starting to seem a lil stupid when a CAI is goin to set me back over 300 dollars and power gain is going to be a very minimal one .. but it is very tidy and bolted straight in and thats why i bought it . how it is sitting in pic looks like im an idiot and dont know how to rotate a pipe but the maff sits too high and when i bring it down to slide it into the cut out hole the pipe kinks . After looking at photo thought i would explain GOT MY NEW FUEL REG Also took advantage of the sunny weather on the w/e and sprayed up my spare rocker cover as the other one is in desperate need of replacing Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I noticed You only have one breather going to Your catch can and the other plumbed in to the plenum with a PCV valve.. That will cause un-metered air to enter the plenum. You should remove the PCV and place a grub screw in the plenum then run another hose the the catch can Other than that, great work champ, nice build. Where did You get the steering wheel and how much did it set You back? I would like one for the VL I'm building! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

the silver on the front bumper looks better with the white than the darker silver IMO.

Kelly- mate what can i say great minds think/act alike haha . my water pupm decided to start squealing its head off tonight when i took the vl out for a lil test drive i did do a coolant flush on it last week and my bleeder valve is not hooked up to the coolant system so i just have to bleed it best i can though the radiator ... im guessing i have some bubbles floating around the system which is worry . FOUL-i agree plastics will be redone is asteroid silver and window surrounds black , don't have the time or money atm and its not on my have to do list . thanks for your input Get my licence back next week so will be taking the vl to caulder to put down a time hope she is running nice and smooth and the weather holds up . stuffed around with the MAF fuel mixture controller tonight and got rid off some spluttering and defiantly ran a lot nicer as the mixture was too lean i think . also noticed tonight a pressure releasing noise when i was on boost in 3rd under heavy load revs at around 3,500 rpm im guessing its always been there just haven't herd it over the motor .. could this be the standard blow off valve that is in my plenum or is this spiking or what ???
