My names Jake im 16

i saved 6 grand and recently bought a vl turbo wagon(genuine) from here for $2500
i havent done much to it since i bought it,just bought rear pedders springs for $30 (not in atm tho) bought seat covers, boost gauge, a new dizzy, fluffy dice, pod filter, etc
This still needs alot of work, its having problems with crankshaft sensor/Dizzy so they are out of the car atm replaced but cant do anything in this depressing weather,
Future mods/things i want: new cooler/piping, respray white, new trims with the red pinstripe, new silver cepters, with red wall tyres, rebuild engine, bigger turbo, custom interior, custom plates etc.

hey,um idk parents gave me rougly $60-$70 a week sometimes double, sold all my consoles and stuff i didnt use and yeah i had about 5.5 - 6k saved
this was meant to be only be a car to work on but its not starting now and i dont know why, i bought this for 2.5 but only because he said the auto was blown but it was only disconnected and still came with a spare one anyway
i might try selling it but dunno if anyone will be intrested il sell it for the price i got it (2500 minus seat covers, boost gauge,) cause i bought a battery and a new crank shaft sensor which took me back around $230

it also says you have an xr6 turbo under your avatar. surely with no job and still being at school you didnt save up for that by yourself at just 16. im 17 myself and a 1st year apprentice and have no where near that kind of money... unless its mummy and daddy's xr6?

15-06-10, 12:56 GMT+10#10 i see you are selling this and i hope you don't give up so easy. its a cheap ar and with that will come problems. bst thing you can do is take it to an auto elec or trusted mechanic to get it running. once it is driveable get a gregorys or a mate and start doing small stuff like replacing brake pads and servicing etc.
if you sell this and then buy something else with the same sort of money chances are it will be worse. seriously my vlt cost me 5 no reg no roady, no plates and it has cost me easily 13G so far. and will only cost more. but i have done a lot of mods and payed for a lot of it to be done. point is pay to get it running (its worth the $$) and get the mechanic to givyou a list of small things to work on or sell it and buy a vs/t which will cost more upfront, be boring and will probably be worth nothing when its ready to resell.

15-06-10, 15:23 GMT+10#11 I wish my mum had an xr6 turbo not a piece of **** daewoo. Siroller is spot on, just koz it's not running don't sell it. U won't get peanuts for it as buyers will use that as a reason to drop your price. Send her too a mechanic or an auto elec. I'm an apprentice auto sparky where in coburg if that's near you. Then get her cleaned, service, springs etc and you got a nice first car.

15-06-10, 15:53 GMT+10#12 yeah i bought this car to work on,but i dont know whats wrong with it,it was working and my dad was screwing around with it (firing order, idle) and the next morning it wouldent turn on,ive spent money on a second hand dizzy, new crankshaft sensor, and still has same problems,my course im doing atm is automotive but its not really helping me with this,i dont want to give up,but i dont wanna keep spending money on it trying to find out wats wrong with it and its still not turning on,if i did sell this i wont buy a car same price il prob buy a decent one for 6500 - 7000,
if i find out whats wrong with it il keep and fix but if i dont i dont wanna spend all this money on it, ive already got people screwing me around anyways ,like pranking my phone early in the morning and ****,il prob get more money for stripping the car anyways,
um yeah the xr6 turbz we only got last year b4 that weve had really crappy cars lol, datsun sunny gl which was crappy condition, old rwd celica and a vh wagon 308, so i guess the xr is the only good car weve had lol, and i live on other side, south east

15-06-10, 16:50 GMT+10#13 another point - 6.5 - 7k will still get you a so/so car. mine was 5 and was essentially a farmhack which had been left to deteriorate but with a rebuilt engine and a tidy up. the body and the rest of the driveline is still 270,000ish km old and i am still pulling straw and clumps of dirt out of it. i have had it for coming on 3 years now. mine cost me a very fair amount of $$ to get all new electrical crap under the hood. i haven't had a problem with it since and it has been very reliable. i think if you pay to get it running and then spend some time with polish and degreaser yours will come up well.
at least take it to get a R/W check which should cost about $50 and will give you a massive to do list. at that time also get the mechanic to trouble shoot the starting issue. gauranteed it will be something simple. i have done many stupid things in my time, dissy back in without getting the crank in the right position, screwing up firing order, once i even left the afm unplugged (DUH) you will learn but it takes time. when i was your age i rebuilt a HR front end, and brakes and that was a real exercise. took me most of my holidays to get the gunk off of it.
don't give up yet or you will be very dissapointed when you buy another for 6-7k and you find its still not smooth sailing. I took mine to Jamie at JDCustoms and he took his time but he did an excellent job and i would recommend him time and again. have a browse around and see what other workshops people on here use. go somewhere that knows rb30 turbo's and you will get a good result without screwing around. rajab / AVO they are some big names. i even went to a joint called RECustoms in springvale recently, they had lancers, GTR's, chasers, the whole lot up on stands and a CV8 in the corner. they recon they do a bit of work with rb30's so could be worth a shot.

your concern seems to be that if you keep it it will keep costing $ with no result. like i said take it to an RB30 expert and they will have you set back on track in no time then you can get back to learning on smaller stuff. my first vl was a 4**,***km daily and broke down on a very regular basis. in retrospect i wish i had spent the $ up front to get it going as reliably as my wagon is now. listen to someone who learned the lesson the hard way.

15-06-10, 18:32 GMT+10#15 don't know either. i'd judge by the cars parked out the front and being worked on. also have a chat to past customers. just chuck up a thread asking for some people in the vic section to pm you in regards to their experiences. you have to be carefull to avoid 'workshop wars' on this forum and badmouthing workshops is a touchy area. once you have some good feedback go have a chat to the owner / whoever is behind the counter and see what you think of them. if there is a personality clash, don't use them!
i chose JD because from my assesment he had a lot of knowledge, he has a small workshop so i know at any time it will be only him or his brother driving / working on my car and the products he has fabricated and offers are of a wide variety meaning its a one stop shop. when i dropped my car off i did it in person, he showed me around his workshop etc and since then i have been back twice and have just had the car towed to him once. just look for someone you can truist. its a bloody long drive to get the car to him though!!
i am sure addicted will be fine but go sus it out yourself and make sure you are happy with them.

19-06-10, 23:11 GMT+10#18 update, i bought a n/a vl executive $2500 its got 118000 ks,very clean paint(red over silver),clean bay, looks like new interior, i got told it belonged to an old guy born in the 30s, and its sitting on sv6 rims,
so now my plans is to take the good stuff out the wagon and put in my n/a sedan

22-06-10, 16:40 GMT+10#19 Nooooo!!! a white berlina vlt wagon is sooo cool.
if you want a sedan thats cool i can understand but consider this, at the end of the day, a n/a plated car converted to turbo is much more police hassle and worth less $ and less appreciated than a turbo plated car. realistically i would recommend make the wagon a long term project (since you will not be legally able to drive it) and get the sedan roadied and registered as a car for geting your L's and whatnot.

btw, pics of the sedan!
