Ok im thinkin about buying a vl with a 355 in it. Problem is owner knows nothing about it and says it just sounds like a 308. Is there anyway that i can tell that it is a 355 with out pulling engine appart? Every stroker iv ever heard has a way more agressive idle than a 308 but im guessing thats to do with cam? Any help at all would b appreicated. Thanks guys.

About the only way to phsycally tell is to take out a spark plug, drop it down to BDC and put something in there to test the depth of the cylinder.
Compare this with a 308. If your length is longer then it's a stroker. If it's almost the same then she's a 308.

PROGMH is right, however the angle of the spark plug makes it very hard to get any form of measuring tool in there, after all there's less half an inch difference between a 304 crank and a 355. I have noticed most strokers have a deeper "thump" to their idle than stockers but i wouldnt go betting any money on a capacity based on the note.
