just wondering if any1 has any experience taking a diff into a shop and asking them to swap the ratio? assuming i had all the parts and the diff was out of the car, im just guaging how much a price would be?
ideally i want to swap ratios between two diffs that i have, from what i've read it sounds easy enough to take apart, its just setting the pinion for blacklash or lash or whatever that you need special tools for etc...
rough plan that i've got is to take both diffs out, sit them side by side, empty the oil and even go as far as unbolting the housing etc and removing the diff gear or atleast having it open. doing this to both then bringing them to a diff shop and saying "please set them for me sir" and then going on my merry way.
shouldnt be too much? im scoping prices really guys, so any1 thats delt with any (good) diff shops let me know,
ill call wa diff centre once i've got both diffs out and see what they say.

i've never opened a diff, and whilst i am certainly all for learning, this is not the diff i want to do it on haha. if i didnt care or it wasnt an expensive diff i was talking about, i would do it no problem, but as one diff is quite expensive and the other is to be sold, i dont want either of the screwing up and costing me more in the long run.
im pretty sure i could do it, but i dont want to run the risk of ****ing it up. i dunno, ill do some research before i buy it, see if i know anyone with some practical experience in diffs to chat to about it and i might try it.

setting backlash n **** can be a bit hard, certainly if you have never opened a diff lol
i've been quoted upto $350 to change ratios with parts supplied, so $150 is *** good.

diff shops unfortunately arent open at 9 45pm on tuesdays :/
they are however open now...
so what shops should i try? collie is a bit of a treck for me, but thats a pretty sweet price... i got quoted from wa diff centre a fair amount of money to supply and install the centre i want, they said it would be 1k ontop of that to supply and install gears, and said that was a good price because they would already be doing some labour and the diff would be apart.
so thats why im scoping for different places to maybe try, if all else fails ill just go to wa diff centre and get another price.
was hoping one of you guys might work at one of these shops too

I then rang another well known place to do the same job and got a quote over $1000..... I ended up going to a small local bloke who did it all for $150..... Its a strange world

The thing is, you're not the first person to ever do this, plenty of advice everywhere you turn don't need to start thread every time you have an idea, want advice or have some sort of dilemma. This section is filled with random threads like this now. Often repeated topics too. A simple search can reveal this, even of the WA section. Not having a shot at you personally but imo, WA has become a for sale/yawn topic section of late. Plenty of ways to have general yarns with ppl these day, msn, phone, in person (omg) or in dedicated forum sections.

From that list, can recommend Armadale Gearbox Exchange (they do diffs too). They did the diff gear changeover on my VY LS1.

That's cool. Their tradesman are really good and they are a very understated shop, in that they are not a 'big name' shop or anything. We have used them for many years for gearbox and diff work.

My reply to this was going to be hmmm "disgruntled". I then saw your user picture haha. I haven't been keeping up with your car Chris, but I hope its coming along well with regards to licencing etc. I don't envy you. I was lucky enough to have no dramas like you seem to keep having and drive my VLT Berlina for 4 years of Awesome Street/Strip use.
Hey Jack, make sure the guys you go to are coherent with what you want to achieve. Many places deal with diffs and swap overs but may not be informed or have much knowledge on Kaaz diffs.
Unfortunately some users on here recommend places where they had different jobs done like diff swaps on late models, or ratio changes on standard commodore diffs etc. It doesn't help if they do not know about Kaaz diffs or the job with which you want them to undertake etc.
Ask them if they have done this type of diff in the past. As I recommended, my trans guy is a bit of a drive, but you know your in safe hands as he has done the same job at which you are trying to achieve, and he has done it successfully. The proof is 15 years of my VL plus many from Perth and the Southwest being operated on there.
As I say, many people will recommend businesses purely as they are great people or they have ulterior motives like they are great mates or they did cheap work for them. Great people can do bad work....remember that. I would rather an ignorant, hard to talk to person who does a top job rather than a nice person who can sweet talk their way through a job with which they know nothing about and use you as a test mule.
Goodluck. Keep in touch mate.
