Hi guys, whipped the spare inj. 308 outta the garage & lookin at getting it stroked. I know it's been done to death.... Minus labour / gearbox & differential work my budget sits at the 6.5k mark on motor parts. I have my eyes set on the c.o.m.e 355 forged kit which I may be picking up early this week. I obviously still require plenty of head work. Any mods / parts you guys recommend or swear by? What fuel upgrades do I require? Ecu mods? I'm hoping for a 12/13 on the quarter as an everyday'er, is this achievable with this budget? Other driveline has already been taken care of. Any positive input would be appreciated. I have done many searches, plenty of crap info out there.

6.5k will do it easily - Id use a scat 355 crank and h beam set with some decent pistons - ecu wise Im not sure what u have already. I wouldnt worry too much about the headwork, just get the ports a clean and light grind to tidy them up - but honestly they are ok as is for what your doing. Id try to get around 10:1 comp and something like a 280 or 286 cam, some 36lb injectors and maybe a harrop single plane manifold with an active twin throttle body top - or similar.

Might be better off supercharging it?

Morgz, any particular reason you wouldnt go a complete c.o.m.e 355 forged kit? is your solution a more cost effective 1? NZ EVLHSV, i'm wanting to keep the car naturally aspirated for now, but built well enough to sustain a supercharger kit later if i choose to go down that road. Morgz, I currently have the 215i ecu in the car.

You should decide now which way you go because forced induction doen't work well with the high comp and big cams that NAs need Either way you go just keep the factory ECU and get it remapped

I'm sticking to the N/A.. however the mrs trying to push me towards supercharging. But i'm 99% sure its gonna be N/A. EVLHSV, what parts did you have in urs? I know it was supercharged but any partical brands when it came to pistons / rods / crank ? ---------- Post added 31-05-10 at 10:03 ---------- Morgz, for the injectors, can I use the ones outta the VT supercharged version coz ive got those lying around.

My engine was a stock VS 304. Other than the supercharger all it had was 42lb injectors, Bosch 044, fuel reg, headers, 3" exhaust and a remapped factory Delco ECU. It made 250rwkw on 6psi

what did the injectors set u back? did you use a malpassi reg? what headers did you use for clearance, as i currently have factory vq hsv headers and they come close to the chassis rails as it is, i'm also worried about the p/steering rack getting in the way of the new headers

Think they were VR-VS Coby from memory. Can't remember what the injectors cost, they were Bosch though

buy a good set of extractors, just some pacemakers or something made to fit in the early commodore. Then drop in the injected 5L, and and a supercharger kit. Honestly, its best value for a daily driver

not a big fan of superchargers though. if i were to supercharge it, does the motor need any special requirements, ie; pistons / head work.. i know that flat tops are gonna raise comp too much and my cam selection is going to be based on that too. what sort of $$ budget am i looking at...

you'd get away with extractors, exhaust, and a full vortech off ebay for under 5k...

Vortech! powerdyne and all that are cheap, but you cant go past a vortech V2 for a holden 5L

There's a few in the vortech v2 series? Any distributors in Australia?

capa is the distributor, but brand new expect to pay 6k with the tune, injectors, and cooler

geeze my pockets arent that deep, dont really wanna use second hand though... f%ck it, keep it naturally aspirated. i just gotta get all the right goodies for it though. i'll make up a list tonight n c what you guys think. Would I really need to go a forged setup? what sort of power do the standard c.o.m.e 355 stroker kits withstand?

By the time you get the block clearance done, assembled, twin throttle body manifold, and a tune I'd say the 355 stroker would come out costing more and making less power than the said supercharger kit - unless you can do the machine work and assembly yourself?

i gotta pay for the machine work, but the assembly isnt costing me a dollar. Has anyone done a write up for a supercharger setup?

what you mean a write up? you buy it as a complete kit. Machining for a stroker is about $2k-$2.5k
