hey guys
just wondering if anyone has stroked an ls1 on here, i'm thinking of doing stuff to my engine and turbo/supercharger attract too much attention from the boys in blue.
cheers

Plenty of options.. really depends on how serious you want to get and how much you want to blow.
A LS1 block with a 383 ci crank is I think a waste of time. A good thing no doubts but the kind of money spent a LS2/LS3 block will yeild more cubes and a better design heads. A LS3 based 427ci mill/Big dollar heads solid roller etc etc etc will see 400+rwkw
A option for you would possibly be an LS3 @ 6.2L is nearly stroker capacity and with a cam + higgins/CNC head combo would see a pretty healthy car. Anywhere up to 350rwkw.
As I said heaps and heaps of options.

what would u budget for the LS3 427 as a long engine complete? including the headwork? are they a cast iron block? or would u be better off buying an LSX block and starting from there with some lunati gear?

If it was a mid level LS3 which is the factory aluminium block based 427 stroker probably more than 20K. N/A is always big coin versus boost for power output. I know of a few engines being built that are going well over the 50K mark..
I am have a LS6/truck iron block for my turbo build. 4.0" stroker, 4.030" bore for 408ci. It is pretty budget build really, using eagle crank and rods but upgraded rod bolts, main and head studs etc etc L92 CNC heads. The only reason for the iron block is bore strength at big combustion pressure levels and its cheap @ $800 bucks + machine work.
LS1 bore is 3.9 with a 3.62 stroke for 346ci.. 5.7L
LS2 bore is 4.0 with a 3.62 stroke for 364ci 6.0L
LS3 bore is 4.06 with a 3.62 stroke for 376ci 6.2L
LS7 bore 4.125 with a 4.0 stroke for 427ci or 7.0L
LSX can go 4.25 bore and a 4.5" stroke for 511ci or 8.37L
Plenty of other block manufacturers like World Industries etc that make pretty insane Aluminium blocks but looking at 5K + for a fresh block.

Ive heard some bad things about World Industries. A guy called Bill Mitchell or something owns them and ive heard numerous stories of him building engines for people and ripping them off big time (e.g. engines not being put together properly leading to failure)

No idea about that.. Havn't heard anything but anyone who kills a 50K plus motor is going to be cranky.

cheers for the replies.... just gettin a feel for what would be good i really want to turbo the ls1 in my vl but i'm sick of police and defects trouble. found a 454 stroker kit for an ls1 from an american company but wasn't sure if it seemed right.

28-05-10, 12:16 GMT+10#10 but for that price? I can get a LS7 crate engine for around 17k - with a cam/exhaust tune itd make over 350rwkw.

28-05-10, 14:10 GMT+10#13 Titanium rods 427ci and revs to 7K factory... that is awesomeness. A big enough cam and a real set of heads on would see 400+rwkw probably 430-440. Thats big power.

31-05-10, 01:15 GMT+10#14 Hi rory personally i would keep the gen 3 standard stroke save ua all the ****n around and go for a nice big head and cam pack. 4.11 diff gears get it all tuned up you could get 300rw or more and it will go hard as **** or stick ua turbo badge back on and chuck a nice big snail in it lol
