hey all,
i currently have a 2000 vt ss gen 3, it has 198,000k's on the clock at this moment. engine and auto seem to be in good condition and are regularly serviced. i have pacemaker extractors fitted and a full system (unsure of size) and recently made 196.5 rwkw which makes me want more.
im thinking of buying a complete single turbo+ intercooler kit to put on her. i know that ls1's have a strong bottom end and are easily capable of handling single and twin turbo's but im unsure if its ok to install it on this engine having the amount of km's it does. i want to know what should i need 2 no when having this kit installed (problems i might come across) and also if it is ok to install with the amount of k's should i just run low boost??
any info you's may have would b appreciated. and also what kw would i b expecting from this?
thanks lucas

Depends on what turbo, but an ASE kit on around 8psi would usually see around 350rwkw... Some people are making 500+ on the stock motors lol

If i were you i wouldnt be boosting a 200,000KM old motor. It'll probably be fine, but if it was me and i had the money i'd either:
1. rebuild/recondition it
2. Forged internals, cam, heads etc.
3. Buy a new LS1 and drop it straight in (although you'll probs have to go through the RTA or whatever to get it all legalised)

Exactly.. That way you can iron out all the bugs from the turbo kit and when the LS3 or forged engine whatver goes in. It will be perfect.
ASE kits a quite good. Well from my experience they **** up the least.

THIS^ I'm getting the ASE Turbo Kit on my VT SS as well was looking at the T1000 kit and keep it on low boost until it gives up and then stroke it once it does btw this is their website http://www.aseturbo.com/holden/vt-vz...re/cat_53.html (http://www.aseturbo.com/holden/vt-vz-commodore/cat_53.html)

07-06-10, 15:04 GMT+10#14 I have the ASE1000 single on mine and love it. My motor has similar km's to yours. I'm only at 5psi (314rwkw) as I am waiting to upgrade to later model head gaskets and valve springs. 10psi (380-400rwkw) shouldn't be too much for a healthy stock motor

i had a chat with a guy that has the ASE T1000 kit on his VY SS he was running 13 psi if i can remember correctly 401rwkw or something like that and said his engine gave up after 6 months but he used to give it a hard time and was waiting for it to go as he had a 402 kit ready to go in and now is running 483rwkw

08-06-10, 08:29 GMT+10#17 As with anything boosted, and especially what is essentially a n/a motor with 10:1 compression ratio its all the in the tune and things you bolt onto it.
You can't skimp on fuel delivery and your tuner must find MBT. Make sure the IAT are efficient and the engine will live happily.
Just remember anything that burns twice as fast lives half as long....
