Guys
Can anyone here read a Cam Card and translate it to caveman, I had my cam done and i cant make any sense of it.
What are the important points etc....
Cheers

valve lift and the duration at .050" lift are the main things to look at.
post up the info

ok, the data is split into 2 halves, the top half is measured at 4 thou of valve lift, these are the 'advertised' figures, the bottom half is measured at 50 thou of valve lift, this is the more relevant figures to look at.
you can see the peak cam lift figure of the intake side (0.29915"), that is then multiplied by the rocker ratio (1.65:1) to get the peak lift at the valve (0.49359)
the top duration figure of 279.4 means that the intake valve is above .004" for 279.4 degrees of crank rotation
the bottom duration figure 216.6 means the intake valve is above .050" lift for 216.6 degrees of crank rotation, the difference between these figures show how agressive the initial lobe lift is.
The lift @ TDC is a very handy figure to degree the cam in with, after using a degree wheel to establish the true Top Dead Centre, rotate the crank around and stop at TDC and if the cam is perfectly dialed in you should have 65.4 tho (0.0654") of lift on the No. 1 intake
The open and close figures are exactly what it says, at 33.56 degrees Before Top Dead Centre the intake has lifted 0.004" etc etc. they are an old school way of looking at cam figures.
The lash figure is 0.0000" this tells us that the cam is a hydraulic cam and has no valve lash (clearance between the rocker and the valve). if it said for eg. 0.006" it would be a solid cam and requires solid lifters and adjustable rockers to allow setting of this clearance.
cams that have a 0.050" duration of up to 215 - 220 degrees are fairly mild, 220 - 240 is starting to get more serious like a low RPM race engine or hot street, 240 - 260 is really for race only, more than this is aimed at high RPM use only and will be a pig on the street with very low vacuum and poor low RPM performance
I hope this helps.
let me know if you want more specific answers,
Cheers

236/244 is a fairly agressive cam for the street us need about a 3500-4000 converter if it was an auto.... Nice cam
