Im looking at setting up 2 step on my rb30det / gt35 for some hard launches & a bit of fun here and there. Theres an option to enable it all on the ecu setup, just wondering Im pretty sure its antilag once enabled will just retard your timing heaps and pop and fart and build boost from low rpm. Does two step work on the same principle or does it only start building boost once it gets to the soft rev limiter. Obviously will have to install a clutch switch & enable to use, and I will have to get it tuned & setup just interested to no the difference, Does two step retard the ign timing or how exactly does it work also heard antilag is really hard on turbos and two step is the better option for launches. Thanks

all i know from what ive heard and been told is that antilag puts more strain on the turbo and will cause it to wear out/break quicker

Two different things. Anti lag is retarded timing to the point that the combustion occurs with the exhaust valve open or just before opening something like that, very brutal on the turbo. Two step is just a secondary limiter under the engine over rev setpoint activated by whatever you want, switch, button, pedal etc.

Yeah I'm pretty sure 2 Step (also known as launch control) is a second rpm limiter under the engine over rev limiter as stated by RB2GO... So if your car launches best at say 3500rpm with minimal wheel spin you set the your 2 step to 3500rpm so you can hold your foot on the pedal without watching the rev's and launch perfectly...

So I cant build boost in a manual without using antilag?

pretty much man. I had antilag on mine only really soft tho. The boost guage would just go to 0-1psi but it made a massive difference to launching and especially if i left it on during gear changes it wouldn't bog at all.

Cool glad I asked the question I was running off information that if I should be able to build a reasonable amount of boost sitting on the soft rev limiter & I was getting excited Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I used launch control a few times on my vipec. With the old hiflow i could get around 5psi off the line. But with the 35/40 think its more like 0-2psi ish.Havent really tried it out propely yet. Thats just with hard cut limiter set at 3500 and timing retard set at about -15.

with the two step, regardless of building boost or not, if you bog down, wind it up more

2-step limiter just gives you consistency to launch at a set rpm.

I got 2 step( 2 stage rev limit) on my wolf v5 works mint gets 12psi . But when i raced it was only about 7psi because i had a turbo gasket leak.

from the reading i've done on i figure the best way to set it up is to set a 2step limiter off the handbreak, eg handbrake on, clutch just touching/below friction point, rev to the soft limiter and try release clutch/handbreak in one fluid motion. (i first read about this on antilag, after looking it up more i cant see a better option) while it sounds difficult i cant think of a better way to have the car wanting to leap out of the traps... obviously might strain the clutch a little, but thats the point of a clutch anyway. is it possible to set it up on a microtech? from an external device? or do you have to have a more... advanced piece of technology?

I have an ems ecu could set up any number of triggers for twostep, I was just going to run a switch on the dash to select on/off and just a clutch depressed switch for soft rev limiter.

so whos actually running this? and more importantly anyone running it on a microtech?

Yes it can be setup via switch on an aux input wire. Need to make sure foot is flat to the floor when preset I want to know this as well. According to the manual the 2-step feature uses fuel cut. Does it cut fuel one cylinder at a time? "Connect a +12v switch to the Aux Input, and set a limit figure in the InpRPMlim screen and use the InpTiming screen to retard the timing slightly: when the button is pressed, the engine will be limited to this RPM figure, and the timing to retarded (to prevent detonation). Releasing the button will deactivate the rev limiter and return the timing to its normal value, allowing the engine to instantly produce full power. This way you can very easily use the Aux Input to set up a basic "two step" I read up some more on the microtech forum..they say -30 timing and 2ms or 4ms+ fuel no lt10s is ignition cut. Still slow in comparison to other cuts. The lt16 has a new cut which is faster. I usually retard 10-15 degrees on 2 step. But im still working on a perfect setting. Have not go their. Its not something people share information about. Its all secret. Dont no if that will help you but looks like it shouldnt be a problem.

im no expert on the subject, but this is how I do it....... and we will use a 32 gtr with N1's for the first and a 3 ltr with a 4092 turbo for example two Firstly, yes a clutch switch is needed, TPS and road speed should all ready be in your ECU. You need to be able to limit the rpm some how and control the amount of added or subtracted fuel and control ignition timing at the same time. So we make a table that says.... when the car is at 0kph, and the clutch is depressed and the throttle is over 85%...... then engage launch control. Easy stuff, if you want to limit rpm at say 6000 then on your table -50% fuel at 6000.... but add 50% at 5500. This will work as a fuel cut, but will also add excess fuel to burn in the exhaust. Now this is where the fun begins. On the street GTR, we remove very little timing and it sounds like a normal rev limiter, but generates a little boost, say 6 psi. Perfect launches all the time every time. On the 2jz drag Supra, Pull out all the timing, the thing pops and carry's on for about a second and generates over 20psi.... Instantly. Now the beauty of this setup is the more timing you retard, the more boost you make. So you can literally choose the rpm and power output every time you launch the car. Great for 60ft's. Now because we have all these pre set (clutch/tps/speed) that need to be meet before it will happen, then there is no need for external switches. Now I have monitored individual EGT's (exhaust gas temp) whilst doing this, and in the small amount of time you are on launch control they get no where near as hot as full throttle. Mind you, if it is abused....... Yes the do just keep going up and melt everything in there path

Nice that's the information I wanted to hear! I love melting stuff.

getting close to 3 years of owning the car and threads that mention the word "retarded" still make me laugh. mines running the lt16, where did you pull that info from jbonez? i'll call my tuner and see what he reckons, im just wondering now if its tunable through the hand controller? i didnt bother getting the hand controller, but if it can access it somehow (i've never looked closely at what they can and cant do) then it would be worth the investment. the alternative being it will require the laptop... because having it launch hard on the street is one thing, but its a different ball game when slicks are on. so that would require some fine tuning down at the track i'd say.

I just typed microtech two step in google, it was a mazda / rx site of some sort. I cant imagine hand controller tuning being desirable compared to a laptop, but then again the resolutions not massive on a microtech.

Been looking at this thread for the last few days and keen to have a go at setting up a 2step. I running a haltech e6k ecu and on the laptop I can see A Spare Input function called Aux. Rpm Limit with a option to enable and to set lower RPM limit. So it would be wired into a mircoswitch on the clutch to activate it when depressed. Also Id have a switch on the dash to turn the system off all together. Would this setup work? Now for the Anti Lag. On the laptop I have a PWN output for Anti-lag switch its options are Ignition Retard Ang. :0 % Inc Fuel:1 Zero TPS. Only: off Zero Inj. Time:1 Throttle Perc: 5 On Rpm: 100 On Coolant Temp. oC : 127 Also would it be wired to the clutch switch so its switched on with clutch depressed? not really instrusted in running anti lag just curious. Anyone set this up on a haltech? Also Ive found a FLAT SHIFT switch option. Manual says Quote: It is used by the ecu to retard ignition timing to 15 ATDC, allowing the throttle to be held wide open whilst changing gears. This reduces engine deceleration so gear changes will be quicker, But it also prevents the engine from over revving when the clutch is disengaged
