hey all ive been lookin around at cams to suit vn v8 lately. ive been looking at all kinds of brands from crane to blue racer etc this is my setup.what are my options?when i look at cams they give me specs on the cam but i dont realy under stand what they mean.any one suggest a good cam size? standard stroke 304 will be droping a hi rise and throtle body on top good auto with 3000-3500 stall undecided yet.

i have put a crane 284 in mine and and goes really good (destroys most ls1`s) , just shaved my heads for a bit more compression, apart from that it is a standard 304 bottom end. and i`m running a 3300rpm converter. if you go any cam bigger than that you will need a lot more compession and head work for it to go good and make good power, otherwise it will be all just sound (lumpy). i suggest to go crane 284. or 286 if your gona do head work and raise the compression. dont go a solid cam wat ever you do, it wont make any power with a standard 304.

For the street a cam around 220-230 duration at .050" is a good compromise. Go too big without other mods and you will have a pig on the street. A Crane 286 is the biggest for a daily driver with 10.0-10.5 comp. I have seen so many guys put too big a camshaft only to find they have a slug with no brakes, poor idle and fuel economy. Really for the street the best way is stroke it. Use the torque you'll enjoy it so much more.

shave heads (to get 9.5:1+ comp) crane 286 cam lt1 springs and retainers double row timing chain custom tune decent exhaust setup good revvy little combo for a stock bottom end without being that expensive, 3k+ stall and some 3.7s or shorter gears and it will be unstoppable on the street (providing you have traction) PLUS itll smack out some killer skids.
