I replaced the spark plugs in my 5l calais the other day and now its got a miss through out the rev range. The only other thing i did was take the dissy cap off to have a look and then put it back on. Could the news plugs be faulty? Whats the best way to test the plugs?

Yes i've had faulty spark plus before, so that could be it. But the best thing to do, is to take the new ones out and put the old ones back in. If it stop the miss, then you know what the problem is or if its still there, i'll say it could be a faulty leads (could of been damage when you took them off)

I put the old ones back in and the missing was even worse. So i replaced the spark leads, but still no improvement. I did take the dizzy cap off to have a look when i replaced the plugs the first time. Are they easily damaged? Or could it be put on wrong? How do i test the distributor/cap to see if its working playing up?

it could be a few things, while the engine is running just pull off one spark plug lead at a time and and see which one has the least miss when the lead is off, if one of them makes a very small miss when pulled off, it could be the compression in that cylinder. replace that one spark plug with another one and see what happens. it also could be that their is a crack in the distributor cap and the spark is jumping to all the other cylinder`s, check and replace the cap i need be. and check the rotor button as well. also check that you have put all the spark plug leads in the right order/place, it could be that you have accidently put one of the leads to the wrong spark plug, check the order from the cap and makes sure they are going to the right cylinders.

Thanks guys! The firing order is right, i replaced the plugs one at a time and put the lead back on straight after. I'll have a look at the dizzy cap when i get a chance
