well after checking bunnings who want $50 for the hole saw and $50 for the arbor, im keen to try and find a cheaper shop. i see there are bi metal kits on ebay for $60, but no pickup, so postage would almost make the saving nil. plus i only want one size! so im hoping there are some tradies or engineering/metal work type folk that can help me out i have tried google but its ****ing useless. i need a 3" hole saw to go through cast iron. i only need to cut the hole once, so im not too concerned about owning it for 10 years, but i was hoping that a more specialised tool shop may be cheaper? or someone has one i could whore for a small fee? really not keen on paying $100 for a tool i will use once... I got a cheap ass multiple size kit for $20 odd from bunnings. As long as you go slow and use heaps of lube you'll should be right. Plus I'll check to see how much I can get multiple size kits for at work tomoz.

Thought about buying a pnuematic hacksaw and then drill multiple holes and using hacksaw to trim the rest out? Providing you can get hold of a compressor.. Secondly, what is it you're cutting a whole into and how thick?

far too much work. i only have a power drill, not one on a stand. so drilling holes like that would blunt a heap of drillbits i think i'll hunt around for a cheapo 3" one, but really dont think it will last im trying to cut a hole in a manifold. even if someone could suggest a good type of store to try (ie plumming supplier)? ive been finding it really hard to find shops for specific products lately, google needs to smarten up lol ---------- Post added 18-03-10 at 22:18 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by <NICK> [View Post] do what i did man , go to bunnings buy the holesaw bit and the arbor bit drill the hole and return it lol they wont even ask questions lol get fked! you serious? ive never returned a product in my life, its just something i feel too weird doing. my mrs has a knack for it though, might get her to give it a crack haha 'i bought this for my boyfriend but i have no idea...' i thought they would be able to spot that its been used straight away? the holesaw i was looking at is painted blue so would scuff Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

try total tools, supercheap or cheap asian $2 stores, sometimes they might have something that big? You've got buckleys of returning a used holesaw after using it. It will have score marks and will remove the paint.

Gotta love bunnings for returns. I bought a pair of work boots from there once, wore them for 3 days..then returned them dirty as f***. They were terrible quality. Full cash refund. What are you drilling this hole in, I know you said cast iron but what is it? You realy need to set it up in a mill and mill it due to the size and hardness. How urgent is this? Try a few machine shops or if you get stuck pm me.

its a manifold. not super urgent, just working at bits and pieces for my falcon. its kinda the next step. only have dump pipe and few other bits to sort out. im gonna give it a go with the $20 banger from aldi. of that doesnt work out i'll chase up a few machine shops. just havent had much luck with shops wanting to do such small jobs :/ but we'll see what happens! im happy to admit defeit if it comes to that lol

I work in a UPC machine shop, a job like this will take me a hour on a friday arvo. Not hard to mill a rough hole. So give it ago with the hole saw and if not you might be able to get it down to me and leave it for a week.
