Hey guys, been searching for answer on ba gearboxes but not having any luck. A close friend of mine just bought a ba xr6 turbo 5 spd manual and wondering what are the factory gearboxes used? i recall a big issue with gearboxes in the ba's but i cant recall if that was the manual or auto? he's picking the car up today and said that it was one of the earlier models that were recalled for clutch issues and has been provided with the receipts from ford for the replacement clutch. I am interested in buying one in the near future but must be a manual. So can anyone tell me which of the boxes were the problem bound ones and what the factory boxes are??

The 5sp manuals where puss. The 4sp autos where not much better. The later T56 6 sp manual and ZF 6 sp Auto are much better but obviously dearer.

I smashed a few of the 5 speeds on my old BA ute, 3rd gear was always the problem. I should of put a 6 speed in it.

The Auto trans in a BA and BF are really touchy if any water gets in them just the slightest bit of water there considered ****ed and need replacing.

stay away from the earlyba manuals there the old 5 speeds the 6 speed manuals came out in the mk2 ba and then the 6 speed zf in bf mk2 which is much better than the manuals especially in the fg's

lol did they still use the T5 or T5z in the BA? 3rd gear will let go with anything over 220-240rwkw or so from what i've seen with the guys the e series forum, but thought the T5z were sposed to be stronger?

Any work done at Ford is never cheap LOL I started working there a few months ago and its stupid the prices on some things. So make sure it fails while in warranty Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
