Gday, some of you might know i just brought a 86 vl thats on duel fuel, with the 3l na motor.
the car started not to idle when i tapped the afm, so i disconnected the plug and the idle came back, probably in closed loop limp home mode. i took it off to clean it up and its got some pipe coming from the lpg mixer to it, inside it was some ring with holes i the end, and a mesh filter that had been pushed inside of it. i pulled the mesh out however it was all bent up, so i jus removed it. i cleaned it up with some throttle body cleaner as it was a lot of gunk inside of it.
after i cleaned it up with some silicone spray and the throttle body cleaner, it seemed to idle fine, but a little ruff down low, seems to be idling around 5-600rpm, i will have to work out how to raise that.
but thats not how the lpg enters the engine is it, would have to come through the injectors?

the lpg comes into that ring. called a spray ring and then goes in the TB. Just make sure that all the ducting from the AFM back is AIR tight. and youll be fine. If you can and feel game enough pull out that spray ring and give it a clean with some brake&parts cleaner. Just make sure you put it all back properley.

yep i gave it a clean with some throttle body cleaner, so the gas goes through their, that doesnt sound very good to me, figured it go through the injectors.
question is, if i need to replce the afm, how do i do that, is it a special one..

you wont find a injected gas system on a vl.
as for the air flow meter, very simple to replace. try a second hand one if you want as you should be able to get one for around $20-$30 compared to around $150-$200 brand new. I know you can get them brand new from motor traders.

just seems the gas is intergrated into the afm. id like to replace the afm, as it idled better when i unplugged it, whats going to happen when i bolt on a turbo with this kind of set up?

that's a unique setup you reckon you could get some pics of the convertors?
i don't understand how they control the gas flow from the convertor there seems to be no real valving

the gas convertor is down along the chassis rail on the left, you can just see it.
AFM is probably gone, do as pumba said and get a good condition 2nd hand one even if its just to test it.
and yes that is how the gas enters the system by the look of it from your pictures
