Hi Guys my names Anthony, i'm sorta new to this website, um a few days ago i bought a vl SL n/a im 16 years old so this is my first car. i bought it knowing it didnt start.. the guy said it "might be the starter motor" i wanna hear what you guys think. when i go to turn the car on, it cranks for 2 seconds normaly then sorta spits and the car shakes and just stops . Also when i tap my tire with my foot the fuse box makes weird noises lol it's the 2 big fuses above all the little ones that make the weird noise. i'de be happy to hear what you guys think.. oh and i forgot to mention when i checked the oil the other day i smelt the dipstick and it smelt like petrol? haha heres a picture of the car... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

dosent sound like the starter motor if it still cranks over when you turn the ignition on can you hear the fuel pump buzzing? also check to see if you got good spark i had a similar problem and it turned out to be my fuel pump good luck with it car looks pretty tidy too

if you havent had it running or the battery on charge then the battery has probably gone flat. when the starter dosent have enough power to crank the motor over it usually just makes a loud clicking noise as for the fuel smell, try and see if theres any obvious leaks.

take a speark plug lead out, and when cranking put it a cm away from the block, to see if it sparks, that way you know if its got spark. you need, air, fuel and spark for it to run.. could be 100's of things...

Pull a plug out and put it in a lead then crank it over, you should be able to see the plug spark, if it doesnt then it could be a coil or ignition sensor, borrow a coil and check. The pump should buzz in the tank when you turn the key to reds, nice clean buy too.
