i would like to hav the car around the 200 kw mark
would it be smart to buy a grandpa spec for lik 1500 to 2000 and do it up but the only work i hav done on engines is i have rebuilt 3 lawnmowers lol or buy a read made car that can reach that power mark or around it
i have about 8 grand to spend that my pop has given me coz he has recenlty has passed away and ill probs put my money towards the body and the interior
what is your guys thoughts of what i should do and what do you guys think of the rb 26 head conversion?

If you are going to do a 26 head conversion u need around 20-25k to do it, this is beacause your not going to do it and settle for around 300rwkw are you with so much potential there so it's all the additional bits and peices that all add up, pretty much everything will need to be changed for this conversion or upgraded in some way.
If you dont mind saving, go for it.. otherwise Id go something using stock manifolds, a gt35 and a good computer and gearbox..

invest the money in something other than a VLT, you are on L's
get a camry, corolla or whatever until you have a full licence then think about it all over again
yes school holidays..................more silly q's

if you want a project a vl is a good car.
8g should get you a vlt with a few extra ponies at the wheels.
however the simple fact is most vl owners pay for people to do their work and while you can buy bling and horsepower you can't buy attention to detail and love of a car.
if you find a nice vlt for say 7g as it will cost you atleast 1g for a roady and reg, expect a bit of rust / broken plastics, torn seats, etc. its all fun and games. get on the f.s. section and go see what is available in your price range. once you have looked at 2 - 3 cars you will get an idea of what is good and what is bad.

Not being smart, but how old are you dude?
If you are young and on your L's, Aus880 has a point, your going to need a car to drive around in, and a vl turbo isnt really what you want as you will get caught and lose your license, thats a fact. However, if your doing it as a project, then look at it this way. You have a few years up your sleeve until you are going to want a car up and running, leaving you time to do what ever you want to the car.
If its a project, just get a complete car, with rwc and reg for cheap, look out for the rust. Keep the thing rego'ed while your building it up, and spend the few years you have getting it the way you want. Forget the RB26 head, way more mucking around than its worth, especially for the power level you are chasing.

09-12-09, 19:58 GMT+10#11 honestly mate.. buy another commodore.. something like a vp or vs, nice for the 5-7k mark.. when your that age, the last thing you want is something that breaks down etc, you need something more reliable and less targeted (thieves not cops) if you get a vlt now, your gonna be ****ed over when you turn 18, so get something else, and put whatever you have left over into building one.. you will have 2-3 years to do it up which will give you enough time and money to get it how you want.. i was in the same boat as im 16 atm but i decided to get a vp v6 as a daily in future that i leave stock, and any other money i manage to earn goes into my other project..

09-12-09, 23:39 GMT+10#19 Morgz is saying you were busted driving with your L's. Since you've lost your license for 6 months a extra one year would be added to your P's making it 22 years of age before you get your full license, I think. I'm not to sure about this P1 and P2 license age limit stuff. Until then you can't own a turbocharged car. Save your money until you can afford to own a turbocharged car. One thing that's going to cost allot is the insurance. So from now if you want to own a turbo save save save or buy your self a project car and slowly do it up until you can drive a high powered vehicle.
