i think if its a bolt in then its ok ONLY if u have the parcel shelf sandwhiched eg have another plate bolted onto the other side so the parcel shelf is in the middle, thats what my mech told me, he does rwc's and is a fabricator also

A four point cage is not illegal. It can be welded in or bolt in, but must meet a set criteria, in terms of its installation, to be certified (engineered) to state that the set criteria has been adhered to. (materials, plate size/thickness, visibility, padding, etc etc. to make it legal. It is a safety improvement, but it goes both ways. On the street, your chances of needing a 'roll' cage are minimal, and in the event of an accident they deem the front 2 bars to be more of a safety hazard to the driver and front passanger than without them alltogether. You don't wear a helmet in a street car cruising to the shops, so your head making contact with a metal bar in an accident will more than likely kill you, or **** you up so you're a cripple. Having the bars in a drag car on the strip makes sense. Higher speeds are involved, more risk of potential accidents and a higher risk of rollover when making contact with a wall or another car at highspeeds. If u happen to hit your head in an accident here, you have sfi padding on the bars, and a helmet to protect your head. Not to mention, im sure there has been a little tuning of the rules to make it quite clear that cars which require 6 point cages, should not be on the streets anyway... That's how they get their way. Some useful info can be read below to fill the gaps, as it seems there is a bit of misinformation floating around. Im not sure how current the info is, but im almost certain the majority of it still stands. http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roa...3Feb2 006.pdf (http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/pdf/NCOP7_Section_LK_Seating_and_Occy_Protection_3Feb2006.pdf) Ollie

street legal with an engineers cert like most things man so like i said earlier, my mechanic/fabricator said he WOULD give me a rwc with a 4 point bolt in cage if the parcel shelf had been sandwiched, however, he would recommend putting the cage in once the cars rego'd to avoid any hastles at vic roads.. but if its engineered then why wouldnt it be street legal?
