Hay.
on my wastegate, As much as i do the V-Band clamp up it still leaks.. the Clamp T-bolt area is touching, cant really do it up anymore, and still leaking, mostly around the link on the clamp.
Anyone got any ideas? use some gasget goo?
Matt.

are the surfaces clean and meeting correctly? buy a new clamp, was it a quality v-band? some of the crappier ones can stretch not like the heat. You can get v-bands from places that supply petroleum products etc It may or may not be cheaper.

I've noticed that on mine as well just abit on carbon around the the V band/clamp. I don't know what to do, maybe a new clamp or I think you can buy little shims/plates that sit inside the V band/clamp which make for a tighter seal. Maybe take the dump pipe off and clean all the carbon off, for a tight seal. What condition is the clamp in? And yeah any ideas from anyone else because I'm in the same boat.

The clamp is a factory TurboSmart progate clamp i got with the wastegate. I was talking to the turbosmart rep at Jambo and he said "err.. Yehe.. ummm.. its something youve done wrong"..
how hard is it to do up a clamp to get it wrong..
When i put the wastegate on it was brand new, the clamps were suplyed with it and brand new, the weld on Vband thingy was welded on by Leigh at ETM so i cant see him warping it or anything.

Try some copper based silicon - high temp stuff - on the mating surfaces.
The best V bands are the ones with concentric circles to make a wave pattern on the flange. **** knows why the turbo guys do butted straight edges instead of concentric circles....

turbosmart have this design, have you preloaded the pipe at all matty like prying it slightly open when the exhaust was made
either ways some copper based high temp sealant will work good

im guessing you used the v bands that came with the gate ?

VLTRB i dont get what your saying?
Yeh ank, used the turbosmart gate.. ill take a photo of it now.
You can see when the clamp is fully shut there is still a little gap where it could go tighter if the outside wasnt hitting.. so i was thinking about grinding it back on an angle so it can go that little bit tighter? can also see all around the band where it has been leaking like ****.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

What I don't get is there is heap better v-band designs that can be used. Guess these are just cheaper to make. The stuff we used to use to pull down vacuum on electrical equipment **** all over that..

23-11-09, 12:22 GMT+10#10 i pulled a tail gate off a mates car 3-4 days ago and the turbosmart clamp is 5 times better then his by the looks and feel of it. But his wasnt leaking at all..

23-11-09, 12:29 GMT+10#11 if whoever made your exhaust is a bit dodgy the surfaces might not be flush and that in turn would make it real hard to keep the sealing faces together

yeh it is lukey, the turbosmart stuff only seals if both surfaces are dead flat a small gap and its over, what you can try matty is to rotate the clamp position

23-11-09, 12:54 GMT+10#14 i hope its a legit clamp.. got it with my gate that i sent to ETM and i even asked him to make sure the gate was all legit and he said it was..
VLTRB the wastegate clamps onto the turbo, the other side does to about a 400mm long screamer.
picture of the old setup on SHOC.

Arr that was a problem with the setup. As i was not using one of leighs manifolds the clame come very close to the rocker cover, had to grind a tiny bit off the cover to make it all fit, making the clamp only go on way one. rotating it wasnt an option, But i dont know how it will all sit on my next manifold and DOHC.

lemme know what you want im fabbing up a few at the moment, any style collector, any engine, any turbo, any gate etc
if there is enough room we'll make it fit

23-11-09, 14:29 GMT+10#18 ha yeh but i dont have that kind of money for a custom manifold. If i can get away with a china item it will save me alot.
