Hey guys, have gotten so much from the community so i better give something back. So im rebuilding my motor, so ill give a little guide to people that are sure on how to remove welch plugs. So here it goes sorry about picture quality, dropped my phone one to many times. (http://img195.imageshack.us/i/p2110091843.jpg/) ( Sorry forgot to take a picture of the hammer, so ill leave it to your imagination as to what that looks like ) oh and a chissel forget that one to haha, this isnt a good start. Alright so i used, pliers, 90degree bent pliers, hammer, chissel, small screwdriver, and multigrips. Ok ill let you know when these tools come into play, Now put your engine into a good solid spot so it doesnt roll or anything while you bang against it with the hammer, mines on a engine stand so i can rotate it around, makes life a little easier. Start off by putting the chissle in the corner of the welch plug, now this part is important, you dont want to be using a screwdriver or chissel or something like that trying to actually pry the welshplug out inbetween the actual plug and the block, what ever you do dont do that, because if you damage the actual block itself, you will put the new welsh plug in and because u damaged the block good chance it will leak on you. So HIT the welsh plug itself The aim is hit the corner, so the welsh plug rotates around, giving you the chance to grab it. So aim your chissel, grab your hammer, and swing away, dont be affraid to smash it hard. (http://img194.imageshack.us/i/p2110091814.jpg/) Ok so bang, we turned it, (http://img32.imageshack.us/i/p2110091816.jpg/) So when you see it start to turn, dont smack it so hard, you want to avoid actually have it falling through, if that happens, grab your screwdriver, or 90degree pliers, try to lift it back up so you can get your pliers/multi grips onto them, might be a bit of a ****, keep calm and you will get it. (http://img43.imageshack.us/i/p211009181601.jpg/) Ok we got grip on it, now hold tight and wriggle it around to get it out, ill show you another picture using multi grips. (http://img43.imageshack.us/i/p2110091832.jpg/) With this one, im actually gripped onto it, and like using leverage back against the block with the multigrips to get it to pop out, found that works best. (http://img132.imageshack.us/i/p211009181701.jpg/) Ok sweet its out. Now you will notice there is 6 along the top, these are super easy to get out, Grab your hammer, smash them through its ok. (http://img29.imageshack.us/i/p2110091830.jpg/) Once they are through, start at number 1, now this is where a mate will small fingers comes in, were its labled number 1 use your finger to push it down toward number 6 go all the way along through the block, and when you get to the end, (http://img26.imageshack.us/i/p2110091828.jpg/) wam, they end up all at the end were the water pump is, where you can simply pull them straight out. And that sums it up, any questions let me know, sure there is other ways to do it, but this was piss easy. Also, dont forget the 1 welch plug on the back of the block! cheers and good luck! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

pretty sure welsh plugs are there purely for the manufactiring of the block stage. all the residue from machining/casting is removed through the welsh plug holes (which they obviously premake), and then they're plugged up with the brass plugs

they can also be used as the sacrificial metal in the cooling system. so incase any electrolysis goes on in the engine, the welsh plugs get eaten instead of the inside of the block
