hey all, recently made my RB not so gentle, i put in a big cam, aftermarket plenum, exh man, t4, gtr injectors, nistune etc and i've done headgaskets since i've got it goin a week ago! I've been buying normal aftermarket headgaskets 1st one as a "permaseal" one second was a "protorque" one.....the 2nd time round i got all new head bolts spent heaps of time making sure everything was right and clean, cleaned the thread in the block etc but it lasted a little bit longer but blew last night boostin.... 1st time it went it let water into no 6 cyl 2nd time it went in no 5 and let water in cyl What do u guys think i should be doin, cos i'm ****ed if im gonna put another gasket on and see how it goes! tuner reckons normal aftermarket gaskets should be alright i was thinkin bout getting a thick turbo copper one??? do they make them? has anyone had this happen to them? btw i'm a bike mec, i have some idea what to do, i checked the head for flatness with a straight edge all over it both times..... ****in performance ****..... mick

genuine nissan headgasket is your best friend mate search through the threads .... alot of people making big HP are still using them

Yeah deffinatly use a genuine nissan gasket they are the goods! But sounds like something else could be going on man, could be over-boosting..

ive got a MLS one on mine now..... and worked a charm , i had a similar problem with you a while back and it turned out to be my actuator was bent and was overboosting which caused detonation and the headgasket let go im taking my head off this week to put my new head on as im going a bigger setup and will be using the genuine nissan one this time around Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I use a ACL race series multi layer head gasket. Had no problems with it. Also have you thought of machining the head? maybe your head might be warped. http://www.aclperformance.com.au/prod_g_proseal.htm

yeh im takin my head to a place when i get it off this time so they can check it out. ALOT of ppl are telling me to use ARP head studs and gen nissan gasket, good gasket, proven with big hp etc and make sense bigger studs instead of bolts, they reckon bolts stretch with boost and the diff cam set up? im over doin the head but still wondering if i should just buy a cometic and no head studs, or head studs and gen nissan or studs and cometic! just dont want it to happen again *** p.o.s

make sure you check the block also for flatness with a straight edge. have seen a few blocks warped and causing the same problem. I would at least replace the head bolts with new arp bolts. A cometic is a lot more difficult to blow as it's a steel head gasket, for you to be blowing so many head gaskets somthing is warped or not right so definantly check the block

Post up photos of these blown gaskets. It's really not hard to install a head gasket if the block and the head surfaces are both flat and clean. I reckon if it's not an installation problem then you should look at whether the tune has anything to do with it. Also use nissan gasket or cometic as stated previously.

I was running 23psi on a factory nissan rb30 with over 300,000kms on it and never had a headgasket problem. Standard piston finally cried enough thou.... 14 psi on a fresh gasket shouldnt hurt it! check for cyl head and block flatness and also check the cyl head for hardness, If its ever been overheated it will have gone soft and just will not seal under pressure.

if its detonating, upgrading to a steel gasket will probly make the pistons the next weakness Nissan gasket and standard bolts have been proven. I run a nissan gasket and precision $30 headbolts, my car has suffered alot of detonation and lean outs over the past year im suprised it hasnt let go, just goes to show how good they are.

First thing you need to do is get the head checked for warping, straightness and cracking. It's the only thing you haven't replaced or had checked.
