why did you choose a vl?

ok boys, sorry if this a crap thread, but ive been wondering for a long time... why did you personally choose a vl to spend your hard earned dollars on? was it simply convieniance because you had one already? was it because you knew someone who had one already and you liked it and were impressed with what could be done with it? why spend almost all you earn on a 22 year old car, to bring it up to the standard of a modern vehicle? why not buy, lets say, a Skyline, a WRX, a Liberty, a Legacy, a Supra? if you like performance, why didnt you get a V8, why did you go for the turbo option? if you have an N/A, what compels you to convert it to be a turbo beast? with the easy option of a loan these days, why did you opt to have a massive headache and build a car that, more or less, needs every part replaced after 20 plus years on the road? and how do you explain the reasoning to your friends and family, when they ask repeatedly, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? im just curious as to the logic (or lack of it) behind the decision. and if you had more money at the time you decided to build, why pour it into a vl and not, lets say, an XY GT, a 68 Camaro, an SLR, or similar? what is it about a vl? what does it mean to you?... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

well for me, it was basically part of growing up in lalor northern suburbs was the home of the vl. also because they were a cheap car, if something went wrong it was cheap to fix. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Going back some time now when I was 18 I went for a burn in a friends VL Turbo with a T04 turbo and a LINK computer. Since that day all I wanted was a VL turbo. I think it's just a thrill of the turbo power. I own a HSV 6 litre V8 and still my VL turbo would kill it. I think also you get a bit of adrenalin rush from the awesome power. And hopefully one day a VL calais turbo will be like a Ford GT and the VL calais turbo will be a classic, if not is. Also it's the car culture that go with it as well. Nothing beats a sexy VL Calais turbo I reckon. Also what's the age for a classic car, is it 20 years or more?

I like vl turbos because they mark a step forward for holden that they should of stuck with, the body was the best yet of the commodores, sporty lines and the start of real curves, and the fact they have an inbred engine, that completely obliterates the earlier 6 cylinder variant made them even more unique & gave Australia a little taste of forced induction affordability,

Cheap horsepower, everything has been well researched. You do really have to be a nuffy to go backwards.
