hey guys im looking to buy a minispool diff for my vs calais its an irs/abs setup and im looking to get upgraded diff gears aswell to suite my car
specs -
extracts, zorst, 9mm leads, cai, stage 2 shift kit, 2500 rpm high stall gearbox is totally worked so i need something to suite it.
i just dont know what this 28spline or borgwarner **** is so if i can get like the exact name of the thing i should be looking for it would be good.. thanks guys.
don't get a spool for your irs, just get your lsd re-built with shorter gears. i got my diff in my vr ss re-built with 4.11s, its nice and tight, perfect.
im not sure if its lsd tho, it will lock up sometimes but that could be cause its on its way out theres a tag on the diff tho is there a site i can check if the code matches an lsd diff and should i get 4:11s in mine? and wheres a good cheap diff joint
VS IRS is a Borgwarner 78 series differential, as found in VB-VT series one Commodores, some Falcons and R31 Skylines. The ratio in your VS is 3.08:1. 28 spline refers to the number of grooves on the end of your driveshafts that insert into the diff centre; all VS are the same, so don't worry about it.
I wouldn't recommend a spool as they're illegal, and exceptionally hard on your CV joints.
As for diff ratio, it's up to you. The higher you go, the higher your RPM will be in relation to your speed. 3.45:1 or 3.7:1 is reasonable upgrade, but you might find higher ratios a bit annoying.
thanks 5spdvl you're a mad dude, that helped me understand it so much every bit of detail ill be on the market for 3.7s then see a few places for mine, not sure if my diff is lsd tho like i said its either on its way out or lsdddd
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
G&J Diffs can also supply you with new gears, so you don't have to buy second equipment if you've got the cash to avoid it.
You can check if it's LSD by opening the cover, or doing a quick test with the back wheels off the ground.
