sounds interesting mate
not really my cup of tea but always good to see different sh1t
ud need something like a gt30 or similar with .82 housing to spool up pretty quick id assume and anti-lag wouldnt hurt either
500hp is alot of power though and will be hard to pump out that much and still be responsive
let us no how u go with it though

thats what i mean, its alot of power for a drift car and u want it to be responsive
i cant see how making that much power would make an efficient drifter, u would only have a powerband of about 2k from 4.5 to 6.5k redline, provided its gonna be a stock engine
400hp would be more then enough to get it sliding
what made you pick that power figure anyway?

hey guys thanks for all the comments but 4 the people who dont like my car fair enough not every one can like the same thing but dont waste y time writing crap idont want to read it.

what suspension will you be running?
250-300hp would be more than enough to drift i think you need to focus more on adjustable arms and coil overs etc and less on power. Also brembo four pot front with drum rear is going to have a ridiculous bias.
Also 14s on the back and 18s/19s on the front is not going to be ideal for a motorsport that's built around stability.
500hp, drums and stockies on the rear... Sounds to me like you are building a burnout car.

youve got this whole smoothed side/ aero thing going on. yet you do realise every drifter crashes its just the facts and so your most likely going to rip those off on a tyre wall. why wouldnt you just leave the sides normal

hey guys cheers 4 the feed back tell u the truth i dont know 2 much about this stuff .what i am asking is how much is the minimum power i need to get sideways on the track and whith the wheel combination can i keep the 19ns on the front and keep the sixteens on the back and how will a na5sp manual box go cheers sory if u dont like the way the car looks but i like more than any other vl

23-09-09, 15:14 GMT+10#10 19s up front 16s on the back will be useless it will just spin out everywhere. An n/a 5 speed probably probably won't last a single lap what you want is an r33 5 speed preferably with a gearset like PPG or OS Giken.
Wheel wise 18x8 with a 205 all around would be ideal.
Power wise there is no minimum, people drift with less than 150hp it's about skill not power. 250-350hp would be perfect. If i was building a drift VL i'd put an RB25 for the revs, RB20 for the cheapness or an SR20 right back behind the front wheels for weight balance, VN diff for extra track in the rear, custom adjustable arms up front so you can dial in some decent camber, cage it, put a seat in it, hydraulic handbrake and start practicing.

23-09-09, 16:20 GMT+10#13 go buy yourself an rb30e bottom end, freshen it up with rings and bearings, throw on a stock 25 head, ebay exhaust manifold and a t04, get yourself a cheap microtech and some 13b injectors, r33 5speed and button clutch, a vn diff with a locker and some sweet ass suspension..
you wont get change from 10k even doing it as cheap as possible..
good luck with it man, hope to see you drifting..

24-09-09, 00:11 GMT+10#17 n/a 5 speeds dont really like quick changes and high power. Best to get an R33 gearbox which is about $1200-$1500. Then will you need an mx7 tailshaft or r33 yoke put on your mf5 tailshaft, slave cylinder and shifter etc and will prob want to get another clutch. Best to have disc brakes on the back as well. If youve got a turbo setup then they have disc brakes.

24-09-09, 09:10 GMT+10#18 the mf5 gearboxes are USELESS for even every day driving!!!!
they only last 6 months or so (or a brand new rebuilt one lasted me 12 months)

24-09-09, 09:27 GMT+10#19 The first thing to do is get some punctuation, and then start on the car build. Like ATMO_BT1 said you should look at wide 18s with stretched tyres rather than burnout spec 19s/15s. An IRS conversion would be the go as VL’s aren’t that easy to control in high speed slides
Another to note, the more power you have the more grip you need to drift well

24-09-09, 10:11 GMT+10#20 i think u should do a bit of research man, have a look on the drift forums and suss out some of the suspension mods you will need
also have a search on this forum for budget build motors, there was a thread going around not too long ago on the best banf for buck engine package
what exactly is your budget? i was under the impression at the start that you were going all out with this but as i read your replies it seems as though ur sticking to a tight budget
