If I had a dollar for every calder park rumour I'd heard I could have bought it and got drag racing happening there again.

That was a long time coming.
A mate of mine who works for the Brimbank council said that the council was putting pressure on Bob Jane to sell up or charge him 150 or there about housing rates a year to occupy the land and in order for Bob Jane to keep the land less land rates was to upgrade the track to improve it so the council will keep shut because he was improving his business but the only problem was that they never got to complete the track and it never opened in August as it was supposed to.
ANDRA is also putting pressure on the Victorian Government to either a) Take over Calder Park and open it for racing or b) Build a new racing venue up near Avalon. Problem is if the Victorian Government do agree which they won't but do either one then the dream of a new racing venue is some 5+ years away.

Unfortunately it all comes down to cash.
Vic Govt wont spend cash on 'hoons'.
Andra wont build a track because it costs money.
BJ wont do **** because it costs money and also because he has no interest in it... just like he destroyed the future of nascar.
Unfortunately not many people have a tens of millions sitting around for an A class track. It's unfortunate that NSW and WA get wicked government built tracks but while Melbourne has the most street racing nothing is done.

15-09-09, 22:05 GMT+10#12 Adelaide is the worst off state, with nothing, and even though an organisation has enough money to build a multimillion dollar complex, the government wont even sell the land.
But yes stupid governments where ever you go!

I dont know how true this is, BJ has moved a hell of a lot of fill into the site now, and the fact that there is more than likely a few million tyres making the banks of the dome. I wouldnt think it would be to profitable for anyone to buy and develop this land, especially when there is still so much land in that area with nothing on it.

15-09-09, 23:02 GMT+10#15 BJ and is great ideas with Landfill. In SA his seating mounds were made apparently with used tyres and asbestos. Anyone that purchases his land is in for a big suprise. Lets hope him or his son dosent get a hold of Heathcote FFS

15-09-09, 23:43 GMT+10#17 Guys, the real reason why Bob jane closed the was because he was repairing the right lane and preping the track has fresh concrete on it and someone who i dont know that does drag racing nor attends Calder Park got onto the track and wasnt meant to be on a certain side and done a donut so Bob jane raced down from his office and cracked the ****s. That fellow racer is now banned from the track and thats all the information we have at this point and time, i heard this from admin at Calder Park Raceway and my uncle is commitee at the track. All the officials have to say is keep checking the site on Calder Park as Off-Street Drags may be coming back to Friday nights and Saturdays. I'm keen to get back into racing myself!
Thats as much info as i know......
Cheers

16-09-09, 01:30 GMT+10#19 i heard a rumour that bob jane quickly transferred calder park and all his other assets out of his name and into his sons so his wife couldnt claim half of it all but in the process found some loophole and never paid stamp dutys and all the stuff like that and apparently mr taxman is chasing them for something like 45-55 million big ones but apparently its in the court processes or something like that.
not looking good thats for sure.
i will try do a search regarding any of this though.
