hey just bought another vl turbo and came with a supposed to4e in it. now it has fairly dented/chipped front blades and quite alot of shaft play (scrapes walls of housing) also has this wierd flange on the rear housing for a external wastegate which also came with the car. and came fitted to a stock manifold with a spacer plate which has a crack down the centre of the collecter? not sure if thats the correct word lol just unsure wether it would be fine to rebuild or get a new rear housing and have the front rebuilt or wether its just **** all together has an AiResearch front on it and a .82 rear and car made 212rwkw on 9psi with it heres some pics wierd uneven gate flange rear blades front blades manifold crack is it possible to have that manifold welded up again ? as i can only assume that its not good to have 2cm long cracks down there Also would be good if someone could tell me exactly what kind of turbo it is if its not a to4e Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeh i didnt think it was going to be any good. do you know if the manifold is salvagable. il most likely get a complete 6boost package that ive been wanting for a while but dont want to bin stuff if its still able to be repaired. if the turbo really is that bad, might get one of those ****house ebay turbo rebuild kits, throw it onto an n/a and let eveyone know how they go lol

front houseing looks trendy hmmm and as for that little crack i wouldnt worry about that a re build kit for a bush bearing turbo is FK ALL take some for photos of the front housing man and also run a ruller across the front how big is that front wheel

heres a pic of a ruler across the front, any other pics of the front u want? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

any idea on what sort of power that turbo should put out once rebuilt? if it doesnt cost an arm and a leg

good power man really need a better photo but looks like it could have a 66mm front wheel so it WILL make more peck power then a 35/40 well it should anyway have a look on ebay for the rebuild kits man

has anyone actually used those rebuild kits? was looking at them myself

that compressor wheel is hammers, also if its been scraping the compressor cover there will be a fair bit of damage to that to, would need abit too fix it up good, new compressor wheel, bearings etc

yeah jet6 who doesnt come on the forum anymore has he then send the turbo shaft and stuff away to get balanced there is a thread on it

I had similar problems, but it was the exhaust fan hitting the housing. Anyway I was up for a total over haul with new bearings, good second hand exhaust wheel, new center bearing housing, overhaul, balance and bench test. Also I went for a larger compressor fan & housing. All this came to $1,100.

it only scrapes the wall if i wiggle the wheel while spinning it, normally it doesnt theres not many marks on the actual housing from scraping but only pulling it down and rebuilding it will tell really, still would like a different rear housing as that one is shockers lol theres a slight rub mark on the inside of the front but not overly bad. il go pull it down now and have a look and chuck some pics up and also hturbo i dont think 1100 is too bad for a near new turbo, this isnt ball bearing anyway so i shouldnt be up for more than you. also seeing as my custom built hi flo from ATS 2nd hand off dave [FATPSI] off here set me back 1k which is a ****ing awesome turbo i dont think paying that to get the to4 fixed is overly bad if you dont mind me asking where did you send your turbo to get rebuilt

Had AVO do some work for me and they sent it anyway for a rebuild. When I look at the receipt It was the cheapest out of all the mods done. LINK G3 being the most expensive. AVO are expensive but they do great work since Lee Wilson took over. And this going back a few years now.

oh ok awesome well i might see what they have to say about it and check out how much itl cost to get my exhaust manifold fixed n go from there. i guess, was looking at the ebay rebuild kits and the jet 6 old thread and mtq seemed like the only place who would balance just the wheel etc themselves and i dont really want to get stuck half way so il see how much a full build will set me back 1st turns out the front blades are 66mm, would like to have some verniers here to make sure thats exactly correct but from what i could see and measure thats what it is heres the slight score marks on the inside of the housing

mate those turbos were the beez neez back in the turn of the century (literally, back in 2000/2001 ) Definately the pick of the bunch for a lot of quick street rotaries. Off hand i know of one that ran 9.8 @ 141. To rebuild it, you will have to dismantle it first, as there are many many variants. Everyone had their little tips and tricks to make them work and make them reliable. Some people swore by it having a 360 degree thrust bearing, others kept with the 270. So you will have to take it apart first to see whats in its guts so to speak, before buying a rebuild kit. If you're in melbourne, id just take it to Mike Lunny at Rotomaster. He has built countless amounts of them over the years. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

**** yeah cheers guys il get her rebuilt. would it be advised to get a sealed rear housing and put the wastegate flange on my manifold instead of where it is now? il pull it down further to see whats in it, now im just worried about how im going to run the oil feed and return as its kind of stock type. though it has had the water cooling removed so its only oil cooled Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
