Your correct in saying it costs a lot to do right. You will need new short stroke shocks and an adjustable panhard rod. You might want to think about new bushes at the same time as they aren't made to last 20 years - go factory rubber bushes for comfort or polyurathane for performance. For improved handling upgrade the front anti roll bar to a larger one

Prices vary from brand to brand, but for semi-decent get Pedders shocks or if you have the coin go Koni. Stay away from Monroe, they’re cheap but they’re rubbish
$1,500-$2,000 should get you something semi-decent installed, but get a few quotes

08-09-09, 14:24 GMT+10#10 Bushes are made of rubber and like all rubber items they perish over time. Firmer suspension puts more load on bushes and therefore they are more likely to wear faster. I would replace the bushes at the same time as you will end up having to doing them at some stage

Depedns what type of bushes you want and where you shop. I bought a complete Nolathane kit for $390.

08-09-09, 17:16 GMT+10#13 hey ive got a full set of super low springs and shocks and a pan hard rod. im gonna take it to a suspension joint to install it for me. i cant afford all the bushes to be installed so which ones should i asked for to be done for now and are most important?

09-09-09, 23:25 GMT+10#14 ask the susp joint to install the panhard, springs and shocks and give you some feedback on the condition of your stering rack / bushes / everything else in your braking and steering area.
they will be under there anyway so will have a good idea. i would advise them to call you after having a look what your car is like and explain wht the car needs urgently and what can be put off.
you never know someone might have maintained the car and replaced all of the bushes at some stage as they are perishable items and any vl will need some suspension rubbers here and there to pass a basic roady.
thats the smart and simple approach.

10-09-09, 16:48 GMT+10#15 Is the Nolathane bush kit front and rear, enough bushes to be changed, cos i can get a full Nolathane kit from repco for $240 on sale. cbf spendn nemore money, so with springs and shocks and panhard installed with this full bush kit will it be enough for my suspension to be finally/decently finished????
kit includes
Front: Control Arm - Lower Inner, Strut Bar to Chassis, Strut Bar to Control Arm, Sway bar link.
Rear - Pan hard rod, Sway bar link, trailing arm - lower front, trailing arm lower rear, trailing arm upper.

11-09-09, 05:08 GMT+10#18 I had SuperPro urathane bushes in my VL for 8 years and no problems. I've heard good and bad things about Nolothane

11-09-09, 07:38 GMT+10#19 I've also heard that Nolathane is good on some areas, and standard or urethane is better than Nolathane in other areas. I suppose we'll see.

29-09-09, 17:51 GMT+10#20 Hey
I just got my self the Nolathane kit from Repco as well, aparently they are made from Polyurathane and Nolathane is the brand or something like that, thats what i understood anyway.
Also got all new Monroe GT GAS Sport reflex technology shocks and lowered King Springs for $500, although not from repco.
I think i have done preety well anyway with the items, will see how they go when installed, hopefully by the end of this week or next week it will all be done.
