Everything you need to know.
thats a good article bax but using second hand 454 chev rods in place of $700 spool ones and high silicon content pistons in place of forgies.. i dunno.. sure things can be done on a budget but to do em properly isnt that much more in the end.
I used the proven spool rod and cp piston combo (flat top pistons no valve reliefs) standard genuine rb30 head gasket and the block was o-ringed as that combo worked well on the previous car with 30 psi. I used a brand new standard oil pump that was rebalanced and uses a rajab pulley, standard water pump and a romac balancer and ARP bolts and studs used throughout.
I think I paid around 6 for the bottom end all bolted together, 1500 for a head, 1300 for a recondition and thats pretty much the engine finished.

Better for what? the back pocket, or performance?
Start with a budget, build the engine with a power goal in mind that is realistic to that budget. In all honesty, its pretty easy now days to make 350-400rwkw and run low 10's or high 9's with a very basic built RB30 SOHC. Unless you have HP heroes or dyno comps in mind, anything else will be a waste of time & money.

I dont agree with that, the twin cam machines are a lot more torquey and fun to drive on the street compared to a single cam rb30. Bang for buck wise if u just want to go fast in a straight line and dont care about a laggy street car then the single cam rb30 is the way to go.
A RB26 head oil lines(galleries) are different to the RB30et. The RB25 head match's up perfect.
Plus Boostn has won numerous races with a RB25/30. Here's a few pictures and specs on boostn.

Schit I better have a another drink. hic up. I've change the photo plus your right, boostn went from a rb25/30 to a rb26/30.
Before
After
With better results, I think I better shut the f'ck up. But correct me if I'm wrong a RB25/30 will be a cheaper mod than the RB26/30?
Well if the 25 head bolts straight up you'd think it'd be cheaper, that and it's a cheaper head straight up.
At the end of the day it flows better then a single cam head. The 25 would be better then the single cam, and I'm sure the 26 head has its benefits but I'm sure the 25 would be doable.
